IAM2429 – Unlocking Rest and Tech for Diabetes
Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

In this special episode, Gresham shares his journey of noticing fluctuations in his blood sugar, despite being active and working out regularly. He was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic, which surprised him since he exercises about 4-5 times a week and follows a meal prep routine.
Gresham affirms the significance of knowing your health numbers (like glucose levels) and filling up your “cup” (maintaining your health and well-being) to be the best version of yourself.
Gresham explains the concept of one-person businesses, driven by technological developments and the ability to run niche businesses efficiently. He covers how this idea ties into his podcast, which was created to explore entrepreneurship and the role of CEOs in small-scale businesses.
Gresham mentions his analysis of virtual webinars, software tools, and other digital strategies to generate leads and business prospects.

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresh values your time and is ready to share with you the valuable info you're in search of. This is the I AM CEO Podcast.
Gresham Harkless 00:26
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.
And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.
We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.
But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.
Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.
I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.
But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.
So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.
But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.
So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.
The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.
So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh here, and today is my rest day. However, I did get into the sauna.
But as I was finishing up the last video, I was talking about something called The Dawn Phenomenon, which is basically that your blood sugar will spike overnight.
[restrict paid=”true”]
And that can sometimes cause like high diabetes or high sugar or glucose readings. And I'm starting to notice that I just started to do the look into my glucose.
And I'm realizing that I went to the doctor. Last time I went to the doctor, I was pre-diabetic, which is crazy to me because I feel like I work out at least three times a week.
I now have been recently probably over the last four months or so working out like four or five times a week but I'm seeing that there's spikes and it's making me.
And I do the meal prep and all the things so I try to make sure I keep my cup full but the biggest thing I kind of left off with is making sure that numbers and make sure that you're filling up your cup.
So you got to pay attention to these things so that you can make sure that you are able to be your best self, because if I'm not my best self, then it's going to show up in my business and things that I'm doing.
So it's important to kind of make sure that I fill up that cup as much as possible. But I really wanted to talk about that because resting is a big part of that.
And where the place and I've had a 12 week goal around sleeping, getting better at my sleep score.
And I've gotten better as a result of that, taking those steps and being aware of those things that can be kind of triggers or things that don't help me to sleep as best as I could.
But sleep, rest, sleep rest, your diet, exercising, stress levels end up being a really big part.
So that's something that I'm probably looking at as my next 12 week goal to kind of like start to regulate that, start to test out some things, see what natural things I can do.
Because I really don't want to go the medication route. And I feel like I do a lot of the things that I need to do and then maybe it's just some tweaks and adjustments and awareness I need to have.
So that being said, I wanted to kind of pick up where I left off yesterday about that. But secondly, I really wanted to talk around this idea of there's one person businesses.
And when I started the podcast, one of the reasons I started is because I wanted to have this concept around what it means to really be an entrepreneur or CEO or business owner.
And the thing that really kind of stuck out with me is that to have a one person business really is based off of the technology and advancements that we have in businesses and how there's so many kind of niche businesses.
So I've been really contemplating that idea and what that looks like, what that could mean for us as a team.
That means restructuring, that means leaning more into technology and doing all of those things.
I think it's been really great to kind of see the advancements of technology and see how best we can leverage that as a team.
But I think it's kind of embedding that within the culture. And one of the things I'm looking at from the broker businesses is, of course, like lead generation.
How can you leverage that to generate leads? I've even been testing out some ideas related to how presenting brands.
And presenting opportunities could work really well for businesses and people that are interested in starting those, thinking about those, exploring those things.
So I've been looking at virtual kind of webinars and things like that and been testing out different softwares that I've invested into heavily this year to make that happen over the past year, I should say, not just this year, but the past year.
But it's been really cool to kind of take a look at that, but I feel like that so many times as an organization.
And this is more in the digital marketing side, we can get bogged down because there's so many people and things that need to really be adjusted.
But I think giving people a little bit more autonomy, having less red tape, and I'm looking at that one person business kind of structure as maybe a way to do that.
And I think it's really powerful because it allows people to be able to make quicker decisions.
You make quicker decisions, you get the positive or negative of whatever that is, and then you adjust.
And I think that getting that spirit of, experimentation of testing out is something that I feel like it has been missing to some degree.
But I want to adopt that more internally, like within everything that we're doing. And I think the biggest part of that is making sure that for every business and making sure your KPIs.
Your key performance indicators are actually going to be in alignment with what you're trying to achieve.
That's one of the reasons I really like EOS and having a scorecard is because you work backwards from what your goals are to create scorecard items that you can track to get to where you want to be.
And if we start to do that, we start to have those conversations and start to execute on that on a quicker level.
I think that's going to help increase our likelihood of success. And I think the way that we're structured, we're well built for that.
So that's just another thing that was kind of like on my mind. I wanted to share and make sure your numbers, make sure you get your rest.
And of course, make sure you're structuring your business in the way that you want to so you can be successful.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And of course, looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
