IAM1895 – Entrepreneur Enrolls People to Ecommerce Platforms to Earn

Podcast Interview with Christianna Hurt

Why it was selected for “CBNation Architects”:

In this episode of the IAMCEO podcast, the guest, Christianna Hurt, shares her entrepreneurial journey and how she established her eCommerce education brand called Wealthycollegekid.

Christianna began her journey by selling other people's products to cover her rent and later delved into eCommerce. By September 2016, she had generated over six figures in revenue.

Although initially faced with challenges and losses, Christianna focused on herself and has now been able to create seven-figure incomes through her brands, including Wealthycollegekid and The Boss Palace.

Furthermore, she highlights the importance of accessibility to clients by stressing that live communication through Instagram and Facebook helps foster connections and answer questions, setting her apart from others in the industry.

The fact that you have accessibility through live, honestly, I don't think there's any brand or entrepreneur out there that is so accessible to their students and to the people that follow them.

Intro 00:11

Do you want to learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales, and grow your business from successful entrepreneurs, startups, and CEOs without listening to a long, long, long interview?

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresham Harkless values your time and is ready to share with you precisely the information you're in search of. This is the IAMCEO podcast.

Gresham Harkless 00:38

Hello. Hello. Hello. This is Gresh from the IAMCEO podcast. And I appreciate you listening to this episode. If you've been listening this year, you know that we hit 1600 episodes at the beginning of this year.

And we're doing something a little bit different where we're repurposing our favorite episodes around certain categories, topics, or as I like to call them, the business pillars that we think are going to be extremely impactful for CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, and what I like to call the CB Nation architects who are looking to level up their organizations.

This month, we are focusing on operations. The systems will set you free. So think about systems, think about flow, sustainability, potentially working out in your morning routine, waking up early e-commerce, and different business models. Think of the operations in the models that basically set up the foundation to allow the creativity within organizations, but also to make sure the trains are running on time and things are going as they should.

Now, this is extremely important because we often turn to the sexy parts of business and forget about the operations and how. Important that is. So I really want to focus this month on this specific topic. So sit back and enjoy this special episode at the IAMCEO podcast.

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the IAMCEO podcast, and I have a very special guest on the show today, I have Christianna Hurt of Wealthy College Kids. Christianna, it's great to have you on the show.

Christianna Hurt 01:59

It's great to be here today.

Gresham Harkless 02:01

No problem. Super excited to have you on. And before we jumped in, I want to read a little bit more about Christianna so you can hear about all the awesome things that she's doing.

And Christiana is the owner of the e-commerce education brand, Wealthy College Kid, the face of the Boss Palace, sleep world USA, and so like cosmetics and a few other brands you may see across social media alongside helping every day people. Christianna, it's great to have you on the show. Are you ready to speak to the IAMCEO community?

Christianna Hurt 02:28

Of course.

[restrict paid=”true”]

Gresham Harkless 02:29

Awesome. Let's do it. So to kick everything off, I wanted to hear a little bit more on how you got started. Could you take us through what I call your CEO story and we'll let you get started with your business.

Christianna Hurt 02:37

So I actually got started. Unfortunately, I signed a lease in a relationship that I could not afford with, hoping that he would pay the rent. Now quickly, I realized he wasn't going to pay the rent and I had about 30 days to find the rent money. Luckily for me, I dove into selling other people's products and I was able to make the rent money June 2nd.

Now that left me back at dead broke. So I had to shift gears and really find something that was going to make me enough money to get through this 12-month lease. So I dove into e-commerce and then in September of 2016, I actually ended up doing over 6 figures in revenue.

Now what people don't know is that my profit was on that, like maybe 20%. Because, it's difficult. It happened so quickly and I made so many mistakes and I didn't have a mentor. So I ended up losing a lot of money and then obviously, eventually getting evicted because he flooded the entire penthouse.

From there. I separated myself and I really like, focused on myself, and I was able to not only get the eviction off, fix my credit, but also stably make 6 figures a month in revenue. To now in 2020, 3, 4 years later, I've done stable 7 figures, 7 figure months with the boss palace, which has been a huge, huge blessing.

Wealthy college kid is now doing 7 figures annually and I'm trying to take it to seven figures a month. But all in all, I feel like your last l really can take you to your first M.

Gresham Harkless 03:57

I absolutely love that last l to your first M. And I think so many times we forget the process that it takes to get to that step and we want to skip over those l's.

But a lot of times if we're able to reverse it, have a different mindset around it that can allow us to catapult to great heights like you've been able to do.

Christianna Hurt 04:12

Of course.

Gresham Harkless 04:14

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So I know you touched a little bit on your brands. Could you take us through a little bit more about them and how exactly you serve the clients at each of those spots?

Christianna Hurt 04:21

So Wealthy College is an e-commerce educational platform that allows people to enroll to earn. So it's initially courses that teach you how to earn income through buying and selling products online, which is e-commerce. Now this could differentiate through platform, budget product, and it allows people to really pick what works for their lifestyle and their goals.

Not everybody is trying to quit their job. And not everybody wants to be full-time online. Not everybody just wants 500 a day. So it caters to everybody's personal situation. Now, the Boss Palace is actually the number one. It's Google's number one ranked. Place to get wholesale vendors list.

Now, a lot of people go into the Internet business and e-commerce as well as wanting to start their own products, but they don't want to shift through hundreds of thousands of different Aliexpress and Alibaba vendors.

So, what the Boss Palace them to do is take a shortcut. And get a wholesale vendors list to contact vendors to actually create their own product brand.

Gresham Harkless 05:18

No, I absolutely love that.

Christianna Hurt 05:19

Then, our product-based brands that, me and a partner and another partner actually all stand behind us a really, really solid team. And we're all black. So all of these brands are black-owned businesses, which I really am so, so proud of.

And I think it's so important to tell people that is that. We are all black working together. So they actually started launching sleep well, which is a sleepwear company, which also offers wholesale pricing for sleepwear and loungewear.

And then we have solely cosmetics where we have a large manufacturer actually made. And created all of the products myself, of course, all organic, all natural, no animal cruelty, things like that out of Miami, Florida, that is going to be launching this month as a subscription.

So you'll be able to get not only your skincare, but your hair care in 1 box on the 3rd of every month, which is a different approach that so many people don't realize that you can put things that are going to run out on a subscription-based model, and it will do so well.

Gresham Harkless 06:15

Yeah, absolutely. No, I love that. You've been able to create each of these brands and I appreciate you making sure to emphasize, especially to this black own, because I think so many times hearing the success and hearing it from people a lot of times that look like you, it reminds us of our ability to do that.

Because I think so many times those narratives aren't being said.

Christianna Hurt 06:33

Exactly, and that's why I try to show people and I really stress getting on live and I really stress being accessible to so many people so that they can see a real living example and talk to an example because 9 times out of 10, it's really hard to envision yourself doing these types of numbers.

Or even creating a business if you can't even talk to anybody doing it and people always ask themselves, how do they change your circle? It's difficult to change your circle when you're just starting and people until you work hard and you have numbers, people don't want to be in your circle because you're not like-minded.

So, I try to give people an opportunity to have access to me through Instagram Live and through Facebook Live to be able to ask me questions and surround themselves with a like-minded person that actually is where they want to be.

[00:07:18] Gresham Harkless: Yeah, absolutely. And so many times, especially in this day and age, it's beautiful that you get that opportunity, as you mentioned, the Facebook lives, Instagram lives to get and have people have the right people in your circle, because this is a time where, because of technology that's able to happen on a lot better level than we could probably in the past.

Christianna Hurt 07:37

Exactly.

Gresham Harkless 07:39

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So I wanted to ask you now for what I call your secret sauce, and this could be for you or your brands are a combination of both. But what do you feel sets you apart and makes you unique?

Christianna Hurt 07:47

The fact that you have accessibility through live, honestly, I don't think there's any brand or entrepreneur out there that is so accessible to their students and to the people that follow them.

Gresham Harkless 07:57

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. And is that something that you wanted to do or you saw other brands that weren't doing it? So you felt like what sets you apart.

Christianna Hurt 08:04

I've been doing it way before it's in mind. I've been going live consistently five days a week for three years now. So it's just something that helped me. Build up not only my confidence, but as well as get sales in the beginning when I didn't have money for traffic.

Gresham Harkless 08:19

Yeah, I absolutely love that. And I think, especially in this day and age, getting the opportunity to connect, not just, know a brand or see a brand, but actually connect with that brand and connect with the people and the person behind that brand definitely creates a stronger, I think, foundation.

Christianna Hurt 08:31

Exactly.

Gresham Harkless 08:33

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So I wanted to switch gears a little bit and I wanted to ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be like an app, a book or a habit that you have, but what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

Christianna Hurt 08:44

Definitely, the Mint app helps me track my spending. I think that's a huge one that sets me apart is I just use the mint app to track everything. As well as using a team, honestly, having a great solid team behind you can make things so much easier instead of stressing yourself out, trying to do everything. You can always have people help you.

Gresham Harkless 09:04

Yeah, absolutely. And I think that when you understand that and understand that you can't do everything you probably don't even want to do everything you allow yourself that opportunity to really, get those people around you. And I think sometimes too, we forget that we can do that also in technologies and in the app, as you mentioned, as well as 1 of those technologies that allow you to take a step away.

So you don't have to literally track every single expense because the app itself does it for you.

Christianna Hurt 09:30

Exactly. And when you have the opportunity to delegate, you have the opportunity to execute more of your ideas, execute more of your dreams and get more done. So I feel like that's better because as ideas come, we can let them fall like they fall to the back burner because we don't have enough time to get them done.

But when you're delegating things that necessarily don't take up as much as your time, you can obviously achieve more and try more.

Gresham Harkless 09:56

Yeah, absolutely allows us to be in our zone of genius and the thing that we do best, which is sometimes being creative and coming up with these ideas. But even, if you are juggling so many different things, not only does it obviously take your time, but I think it also takes your energy as well too.

So often when those opportunities come about, or you see them, you can't execute on them because you're there.

Christianna Hurt 10:15

Exactly.

Gresham Harkless 10:16

Awesome, awesome, awesome. So now I wanted to ask you for what I call a CEO nugget. And this could be a word of wisdom or a piece of advice. It might be something you would tell a client or if you hopped into a time machine, you might tell your younger business self.

Christianna Hurt 10:29

Focus on yourself, stay away from relationships they can really slow you down and deteriorate you from so much that you're trying to. As well as never feel like you can't outlast somebody. Consistency is key and so many people give up. And a lot of times I feel like we don't believe in that. And that's why people fail. They give up before the next person. And that other person ends up outlasting them.

Gresham Harkless 10:50

Yeah, absolutely. And I think if we… Kind of change our perspective and understand that business and entrepreneurship, especially as a marathon. And we understand it's not, you're not going to step up to the plate, so to speak, and just hit a home run.

It's going to be continually, as you said, that having that consistency continues to swing and then you'll get a basic, you'll get, a double and so on and so forth. It starts to build upon that. And then you start to reach that success. You want to have.

Christianna Hurt 11:14

Exactly.

Gresham Harkless 11:16

Awesome. Awesome. So now I want to ask you my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. And we're hoping to have different quote-unquote CEOs on the show. So Christianna, what does being a CEO mean to you?

Christianna Hurt 11:27

It means being an example to others and just a light, a gift array of hope. Sometimes we have to see somebody doing it to believe that we can, and I believe in seeing the potential in people that they may not see in themselves.

Gresham Harkless 11:40

Nice. I absolutely love that. And I think so many times we can skip over our light, as you said, our gift or the thing that we do really best. But I love that you're able to not only do that yourself, but see that in so many other people, because so many times we forget that and being around that helps us to see that within ourselves and understand that, that's possible.

Christianna Hurt 12:00

Exactly.

Gresham Harkless 12:02

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Christianna, I truly appreciate that. Appreciate your time even more. What I wanted to do was pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional that you can let our readers and listeners know. And of course, how best they can get ahold of you, find out about your brands and all the awesome things that you're doing.

Christianna Hurt 12:16

Just if you're trying to become, a part of a really great experience and trying to earn an extra 500 or an extra 5, 000 a month. Just find me anywhere. Wealthy College Kid on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram. If you're trying to connect with me personally, directly, my first and last name is Christianna Hurt and I always respond to my DMS.

So, if you ever have a question, or you just want to change your circle, or you're just trying to change your perspective and be around more like-minded people, the Internet allows 1 another to do that. So, so easily in our reach is unimaginably far with this. So if you guys are looking to find me, just hit me up on social media.

[00:12:53] Gresham Harkless: Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. And to make it even easier, we will have the links and information in the show notes, just so that everybody can get ahold of you, but truly appreciate you, Christianna and all the awesome things you're doing.

And a reminder as well, too, of how small the world can be when we really leverage and use this technology to connect with people in different parts of the country, the world and in different States and everything all around that. So appreciate you again, and I hope you have a great rest of the day.
