IAM2363 – Founder Helps Business Owners Build Network Connections, Collaborations and Get Clients
Podcast Interview with Toni Harris Taylor

In this episode, we have Toni Harris Taylor also known as the “Networking Queen” and “Coach That Connects,” who is a dynamic speaker, coach, and the founder of Global Multicultural Franchise Connectors (MFC).
Toni reflects on a life-changing experience she had 10 years ago when she was in a coma, which she views as a turning point in her life.
Toni shares a powerful analogy that while some people may physically be “awake,” they’re often “sleeping” through life.
Toni emphasizes collaboration over competition, reflecting a mindset rooted in abundance.
She advocates for people to make bold decisions and take drastic steps to change their habits, even in small ways.
In addition, Toni highlights her mantra: “Show up, be up, follow up to blow up.” Visibility, energy, and consistency in following up are key to long-term success in business.

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast and I have an awesome guest back on the show today. I have Toni Harris Taylor. Toni, excited to have you back on the show.
Toni Harris Taylor 01:04
Thank you for having me back on the show. When I am a repeat guest, I think I might have done something right the first time.
Gresham Harkless 01:11
Yeah, absolutely. We invite you back again and again and again because you provided so much value.
So you did a lot of right things. You've been doing lots of right things. And of course before we jump into like having that great conversation about what you've been working on, I want to read a little bit more about Toni so you can hear about those awesome things.
And Toni Harris Taylor, also known as the networking queen and the coach that connects. Toni is a dynamic intercontinental speaker and marketing and sales coach, 13 time author and the founder and executive director of Global Multicultural Franchise Connectors where she's on a mission to educate and connect minorities with franchising opportunities.
And Toni was a guest on episode number 1324 of our podcast. We had a phenomenal interview. And one of the things I saw that she recently posted that she really had a huge life altering moment in her life and she was actually in a coma.
And I think she said basically on her post that what could have been the end of my story became the turning point that led me to discover my true purpose.
And she has a phenomenal story, also has a documentary that I was checking out as well too. And yes, I love that.
And one of the things that I really loved is that her mom was one of the really big reasons that that seed was planted into all the awesome things she's doing.
And one of the powerful things that she asked is like what is the worst that can happen? So Toni, excited to have you back on. Are you ready to speak to the I AM CEO community?
Toni Harris Taylor 02:32
I am ready. And thank you for checking out my stuff. You put stuff out there and you think nobody's watching and people are watching.
[restrict paid=”true”]
So there is a lesson in that alone. Don't be afraid to show up. And then you never know who sees it.
And it happens all the time. And that's why I post it. But yeah, 10 years ago today I was sleeping.
Gresham Harkless 02:59
Yeah.
Toni Harris Taylor 03:00
And I'm grateful to be wide awake now. I said something to my friend and it just hit her. She's like, that's it, Toni. I didn't know I was sleeping until I woke up. Right.
So how many of us are sleeping in life? We may be awake, but we're really sleeping. And then when you get woke, it's like you realize you were sleeping. And so let's talk about it all.
Gresham Harkless 03:35
Yeah, absolutely. I think that's such a powerful thing. And I think so many times when we go through our life and business, I hear that a lot around entrepreneurship.
When people start businesses or do things, sometimes it's that first dollar that says, wait a minute, I can make money this way, I can do this this way.
And I love that sleeping and how it is such an analogy. Obviously it happened for you literally. But I think it's such an analogy for so many times and ways that we can kind of operate through our lives.
Toni Harris Taylor 03:58
Absolutely. And so I'm here to wake people up.
Gresham Harkless 04:02
Yeah. Wake up and show up and show out for sure. So I guess let's rewind the clock here a little bit more on what you've been working on. A little bit more you're coming of age story, what I call your CEO story.
Toni Harris Taylor 04:12
So I am currently working on some really big things. But you need to know my story. And so I am a franchise owner with Network in Action.
I entered the franchise space five years ago by accident when I thought of franchising. It was chicken burgers, subway and retail stores.
It was not part time home based complimentary brands that could complement what I loved and what I was already doing.
And when I was introduced to Network in Action, it really. Well, what really opened my eyes is when I started networking in the franchise space.
So I've been to 10 franchise events in three years and consistently there are not enough brown people in the room.
And I mean brown people of all culture. And so for example to. In June 2024 I went to a conference in Atlanta. Stay there. Atlanta. There were 400 attendees at this conference. Two and a half blacks.
Gresham Harkless 05:32
Oh wow, two.
Toni Harris Taylor 05:33
I was one, two and a half. And I was like, that's. And someone at the conference, I asked her, she's a CEO of a brand. And she was saying how proud she was that women have come a long way in franchising.
And I asked the question, what do I need to do to make this room look like the rest of America? And she said, if you can't get a seat at the table, then you create your own table.
So this month, January 2025, me and people in my network are launching the Multicultural Franchise Connectors 501C3 to educate people of color and women about franchising. And I'm excited about that.
Gresham Harkless 06:30
Yeah, absolutely. So I wanted to drill down more. What are you hoping to make that impact? What is the organization going to look?
Toni Harris Taylor 06:38
Yes. So it's a national organ, probably a global organization because I'm a global networker. I have relationships in the Philippines and Africa and all over the US and so.
But starting in the United States, what the plan is, is to talk to entrepreneurs, people who already get it and they already know how hard it is to start a business from scratch.
So there's four paths for this MFC Multicultural Franchise Connectors. I'm now going to call it MFC from here.
So four paths to MFC. Number one, successful entrepreneur, you might want to franchise your business to scale and build wealth. So educating, how do I get my business ready to franchise?
Number two, the obvious entrepreneur, your. And we all want multiple streams of income. Your next business might be a franchise that complements your primary business so you can buy into a franchise.
Number three, successful entrepreneur, you want to supply your services to franchising. And number four, okay, you're not an entrepreneur, but did you know you could be a executive or have a career in a franchise headquarters?
And so those are the four paths for MFC to bring awareness, education, resources, connections. My big goal, Gresham, is in by 2027, maybe probably sooner to start giving some money to those who want to buy into a franchise to help seed them to get their self going.
Gresham Harkless 08:32
Nice. I absolutely love that. So do you feel like that's part of what I would like to call your secret sauce?
And the secret sauce can be for yourself, the organization, or a combination of both. But I feel like you have this very collaborative spirit and that, I feel like it's rooted in abundance where it's not either or is both and better.
And figuring out that there is a tremendous amount of opportunity, we can go further if we work together. Do you feel like that's part of like your secret sauce.
Toni Harris Taylor 08:58
Yes. I do not believe in scarcity. I believe in abundance. I believe we're better together that I don't.
I believe in collaboration. So even if you do something similar to what I do, how can we collaborate and extend our reach further?
I am having my viral networking conference January 16th through 18th. Yes, that's a plug. There is a virtual option, so theviralnetworkingconference.com please go check it out.
But that's the definition of going viral. You can't go viral by yourself. Right. So you need who's in your life to be able to go viral.
And I do think it's my secret sauce because I've hired a lot of coaches. So I'm also a marketing and sales coach.
And that's what drastic results is. I've hired a lot of coaches. They do not connect me to their network the way I connect my clients.
They don't take me with them. I have a client. She and I went to the Philippines this year. We went to the Dominican Republic this year. I'm like, come with, let's go. And that is my secret sauce. Nobody is the coach that connects like me.
Gresham Harkless 10:20
That's awesome. So I wanted to switch gears a little bit and I want to ask you for what I call a CEO hack.
So this could be like an Apple book or even a habit that you have. But what's something you lean on that makes you more effective and efficient?
Toni Harris Taylor 10:31
So the remarkable has been my secret sauce because I've got all these folders, all these notes. I'm a note taker and I'm a to do list doer. And remarkable has been just got the right name.
So this is my hack and I use it religiously. It goes everywhere with me. And I would tell people, spend the $500 for it. Buy the accessories on Amazon, but spend the $500 for the tablet. It's been awesome.
Gresham Harkless 11:10
Yeah. What would you consider to be a little bit more what I like to call a CEO nugget? So this could be a word of wisdom or piece of advice. I like to say it might be something you would tell your favorite client or if you hopped into a time machine you might tell your younger business self.
Toni Harris Taylor 11:20
Always be drastic. It starts with being drastic. Now, sometimes the small things are drastic. Okay, so drastic does not mean you're jumping off a cliff.
But drastic means you are writing things down when they hit your head because that's not your habit.
So anytime you're changing a habit. It's drastic. So that's the first thing. Then the second thing is my life success formula.
And I put it in a book. Show up, be up, follow up to blow up. So at the beginning you said I have, I posted about my coma.
I have a documentary. I have a lot of content out there and that's my way of showing up. I have closed so much business just because I've been highly visible.
So for you introverts who are watching and listening, you please don't let us extroverts make all the money. Stop using introvertness as an excuse.
And I actually don't think I'm an extrovert because there are times I don't have any. I don't want to talk, I don't want to go, I don't want to show up.
So I think I'm an ambivert more so than am I. Definitely not an introvert. But you gotta show up for your own success.
And it starts with the D in drastic. You have to make a decision to show up. Decide to show up and do whatever it takes to be in the room.
How could I have started MFC if I hadn't been to 10 events and had the experience of not seeing us?
So show up, have great energy, be up. People are attracted to energy. So be up, have something to contribute, and don't be afraid to open your mouth.
And then how do you look when you show up? You don't know what's going on on the bottom up here, but from the top I am dressed.
I happen to be going out after this. You show up even when it's virtual. And then they say the fortune is one and the follow up, I say the fortune is lost in the lack of follow up.
You do show up, you do be up and then you don't follow up. Man, get out of here. Show up, be up, follow up. It'll change your life.
Gresham Harkless 14:07
Nice. I absolutely love that. I love that you put that in the book. So I wanted to ask you now one of my absolute favorite questions, which is the definition of what it means to be CEO.
Our goal is to have different quote-unquote CEOs on the show. So, Toni, what does being a CEO mean to you?
Toni Harris Taylor 14:20
Being a CEO means that I get to impact the world and leave my voice of dry in my following of drastic steppers show.
And I know, if I wasn't a CEO of my own business, I couldn't use that word. I wouldn't be able to use my methodology. So it really is about impacting my community.
Gresham Harkless 14:54
That's so powerful. And I think we were talking about the why and so many times we get caught on our products and services, the things that we do, but our why ends up being a huge thing.
And usually it's I believe a lot of times in that impact. That impact could be in so many different ways as you talked about, like being introduced to the net, to the franchise and open up so many opportunities and now you launch an MFC.
So all these things happening creates that impact and I think if we understand that the the ultimate foundation of what we're trying to do, it really puts everything I think in alignment and makes it support one another.
Toni Harris Taylor 15:27
Absolutely. So I'm grateful, very grateful.
Gresham Harkless 15:31
Absolutely. Well, we're grateful as well too. And what I wanted to do now was pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional that you can let our readers and listeners know.
And of course how best people can get a hold of you find about MFC, your books, all the awesome things that you're working on.

Machine, you might tell your younger business, Always be drastic. It starts with being drastic. Now, sometimes the small things are drastic. Okay, so drastic does not mean you're jumping off a cliff.
