IAM2406 – Revitalize Your Routine!
Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

In this special episode, Gresham Harkless mentions how impatience can be both a superpower and a downfall for entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs often want success quickly, but sometimes they give up or pivot too soon before seeing the long-term results.
Gresham notes that consistency is significant in business success, particularly in franchising. He refers to people with backgrounds in the military or government often succeeding in franchising due to their ability to execute tasks consistently.
Moreover, Gresham discusses how his journey involves learning about himself, focusing on his strengths, and aligning his actions with his true capabilities. He’s careful not to spread himself too thin but to stay focused on what works for him.

Gresham Harkless 00:29
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.
And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.
We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.
But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.
Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.
I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.
But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.
So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.
But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.
So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.
The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.
So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh here, and stayed maybe 35 or so. I said I wasn't gonna say the days, but I like saying the days in the same sense, because it gives me a little bit more context of where I'm at.
When we're talking about starting a business, starting a franchise, brokerage business, or frankly anything, it does take time to build those things up.
I think that is, a lot of times, what may separate people. Now, businesses fail for many different reasons.
Of course, I just got done with my workout, so that's why you hear the wheezing. Businesses fail for many different reasons, and you can't always know exactly why a business failed.
[restrict paid=”true”]
It's not always as exact as saying it failed because of just this reason. Sometimes, I had somebody on the show and he talked about how like entrepreneurs are very impatient people and we want things yesterday or the day before that or week before that.
We should have already been a year ahead of where we were. So sometimes that impatience as, while it definitely can be one of our superpowers, it also be very much so our downfall.
Because we'll throw in the towel, we'll pivot, we'll change before we have the opportunity to kind of see where things are going and I think that's something that I constantly have to work with myself on.
And if you're listening to this and you want to have some type of success, you want to have it yesterday, especially if you're in that entrepreneurial DNA that's usually very patient.
But that's what I think is so interesting about franchise brokering is because there's not one profile of person or people that will be successful as a franchise. It really varies.
But I know sometimes because there are ready-made systems, you have the people that are able to execute on a high level they're able to do things consistently.
That's why you see a lot of military maybe even government people have a lot of success because they're able to do things consistently.
And a lot of those jobs and professions require high consistency of doing things over and over again.
And you kind of have that, not that I've been in the military, but I'm a military brat. So I've kind of seen that from more outside looking in.
But on a regular basis, like my dad is one of the most consistent people that I've ever seen. And that consistency has definitely rubbed out on me, not because I went to the military, but because of, what I saw on a regular basis.
But I do still have my mom's, I think she also had a lot of consistency. She worked for a utility, but she also has a lot of creativity.
So I think that's where a lot of me comes about, where it's that creativity along with hopefully that consistency.
And that's where I really am drawn to franchising opportunities. And as I mentioned in a previous video, I came into franchise brokering because I was thinking about selling a condo.
Haven't done that, but still always in the back of my mind. If I still were to take and sell that condo, where would I repurpose those proceeds?
And those proceeds might go into franchise ownership. So I'm still looking very much so at different opportunities to see what works, what doesn't work, see the pros and cons.
So as much as I'm learning from my clients, I'm also learning here as somebody who might also be his own client, so to speak.
And I think that that's pretty interesting. So when we're kind of going through this process, knowing my DNA and knowing a little bit more of like who I am and what kind of makes me tick and being involved in a lot of things, it also makes me very open to collaborating.
Even going along this path, I have, I did some coaching sessions when I was in my second BNI and one of the coaches, her name is Vika, she talked a lot around a lot of powerful things.
But I talked to her most recently. She talked a lot around what came up for her as me being a connection broker.
And so I got this domain, yourconnectionbroker.com. A lot of times it's because one of the things that lights me up more than anything else is the connection pieces.
What I love about the franchise broker opportunity is like say somebody has these gifts, strengths, and the vision and being able to kind of marry that to a franchise broker opportunity that helps them to succeed.
But frankly, I like to do that in so many different ways, whether I'm connecting one person with another person, I even, Vika, I was talking to somebody else that I had on my podcast.
I'm like, they would be really cool to just kind of riff and collaborate and just have a really great storm session.
So that's just a little bit how my mind works, but it could be that, it could be, different tools. I think that's where the CEO hacks really is cool for me because these are apps, books, habits, and opportunities that really make people more effective and efficient.
So just bringing those two things together, it's like when I hear somebody has this problem, it's like, you should be using this.
And I think that's where a lot of my superpower is, the connection brokering, I'll start calling it.
But I think that's what I want to bring to every aspect. So I'm not trying to do all the things, just trying to be really in my spot. And that's what I really hope to do with this franchise brokerage.
And then there are other opportunities that come up for me later on too. I'm definitely open to it.
And, just learning more about myself and trying to lean more and spend more time in my rate.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And of course, looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
