IAM560- Entrepreneur On a Mission to Leave a Legacy of Love

Podcast Interview with TrishaTrixie Hunter-Merrill

Battling cancer twice changed her life forever. From a Portfolio Entrepreneur for 20 + years, with a hustle or two on the side, she decided to leave it all behind to leave a Legacy of Love. Trisha Trixie's life is forever changed and she hopes to change yours as well. In October of 2016, Trixie was faced with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. In 2017 she thought she was in the clear when they pronounced her in remission but as many cancer patients fear, her cancer came back with a vengeance as Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer when it moved to her ovaries and she underwent a complete hysterectomy and back on chemotherapy. Now, in and out of tests to watch if cancer comes back again, the battle is not over and her mission has just begun!

Her mission and purpose in life is to leave a Legacy of Love. She currently is doing that by helping others to Create a Life they Can Fall in Love with, sharing positive and uplifting posts on Facebook and Instagram through her My Legacy of Love Project, and sending letters of love to others. The biggest news in all this is that she does is for FREE. She wants to help the world. She wants to Save the Starfish People. Make a difference. Create a ripple of positivity, Be a Good Human, and Leave a Legacy of Love.

She shares” There are no guarantees in life, but no one knows that more than a cancer patient or someone suffering a debilitating illness. None of us know when our time is done, but those in a world of illness, know it better than others and know that time is short, so you better live it.”

She still “Sprinkles Fabulousness” wherever she goes whenever she can, by leaving a legacy of love wherever she goes.

The idea is not to live forever but to leave a legacy of love that will.

Trisha, are you ready to speak to the I AM CEO Community?

[restrict paid=”true”]

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 2:19

Yes.

Gresham Harkless 2:20

Awesome. Let's do it. So I wanted to kick everything off and hear a little bit more about what I call your CEO story. What led you to start your business?

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 2:28

Well, basically, you touched on it. I really just wanted to change my life around. I realized that as we go along, it's not about the biggest gadget that's on our wrist or the car we drive or having the Lexus or the cyber truck or whatever that is, it doesn't matter whether or not we have 1000s of dollars in our bank account when we die. It will people remember you what legacy of love will people remember when you pass away? I got to thinking about that and I thought have I done enough in the world? Have I made a difference? Have I done enough for people to remember me? That I think is what matters.

I've lost people in my life and my father was tantamount in my life he passed away when I was 10. He was a janitor, he drove a school bus. But they ended up closing the school down and everybody came out and they all knew him. I remember him being a man that everyone was like Mr. Horner, Mr. Horner, Mr. Owner, and he left that legacy of love I looked back on that when I was facing my cancer and was thinking, what was it about him and it was that he was a good person, he made a difference. He cared about others, and he loved his life. I wanted to help other people do that as well. People often come to me and say, I live vicariously through you. How do you live such a rich and full life despite all that you've been through?

I got to thinking about that and I just came to my husband this year and I said, I just have a passion for this life. I don't want to sit in another cubicle after this cancer journey. I don't want to just go work in a retail store. I really want to help other people and through a series of questions and answers that my husband just kept asking me. It came to a funny story where he was pushing me and pushing me to answer these questions. I hollered, well, I just want to help people create a life they can fall in love with and he said well there you go. There's your mission. That's what it is. There's what you want to do in life and that's my CEO story. That's how I came to this.

Gresham Harkless 4:55

Well, awesome. I definitely appreciate that and am obviously sorry to hear all of the transition and things that you've gone through and I think that and I don't want to put words or anything in your mouth, but it sounds like when you have those difficult illnesses or difficult periods in life, a lot of times it puts things in perspective. A lot of times we'll lose focus over things that really don't matter when in reality, our true mission is really kind of in line with what you're talking about.

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 5:21

Right, exactly. It's really important to me, I say a couple of things that people have known me to say, and that is to be a starfish saver. There's a story that's about the starfish story, not everyone knows it. It's about a man walking along the beach, and he's picking up a starfish and he throws one in the ocean. He's doing this and another gentleman happens to see him and says, What the heck are you doing he says, Well, I'm saving the starfish, and the man looks down the ocean. He's like, there's millions of starfish. You're not gonna save all these starfish. He picks up a starfish and throws it in the ocean. He says, Well, I made a difference to that one.

That's a big mission for me is that no, I can't save everybody. But I think it's important that we are able to make a difference in this world by one random act of kindness. We can do that by smiling being a good human and by doing the simple things in life. It's not about these big, tantamount things, it's about the little things that we do and excuse me, I think that, as you said, it's about the little things that we do.

Gresham Harkless 6:27

Yeah, absolutely. All those things start to add up, or at least I think it starts to create that energy and propels not just for that person. But a lot of times that person can give back like when you're in the when you're in drive-thru, and then you buy somebody's breakfast, and then next thing it creates that whole domino effect this exact same way when you have that mentality.

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 6:48

Exactly. I was in the drive-thru once when that happened and it was cool, because somebody actually had given the person a $100 Bill, and had paid for as many people as good as that $100 Bill, not just pay for the person behind me, but pay for as many people as this will cover. I thought, Wow, what an interesting lesson. It's not just paying for the next person, but paying for as many people as I can take care of as many people as I can take care of. That I think is an even bigger thing. Do as much as you can, if you can only take care of one person, take care of one person and the bigger message, that one person might be, it might be you.

Gresham Harkless 7:34

Yeah, absolutely. A lot of times we forget that and you need to always put that into perspective. I know we touched on it a little bit, but I wanted to drill down a little bit deeper and hear a little bit more about the legacy of love. So if you can, could you tell us a little bit more about what exactly you're doing with that and exactly what you feel is kind of like your secret sauce and the thing that kind of sets you apart and makes you unique?

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 8:00

Well, I think that the secret sauce, and that is the fact that like I said I've dealt with that with my father. I've also dealt with that with my mother. My parents have shown me that it's not about what you have. It's about what you do with what you have. I think that a lot of times people say, Well, I don't have a lot, I don't have money, I don't have fame, I don't have glory, so I can't do anything. It doesn't take money to be kind. It doesn't take money to smile at someone, it doesn't take money to show love to another person to give a hug. Hugs are free. I love those shirts. Some people don't like him. But I love those shirts that say free hugs. Because that's it, it's free. It's free love.

I specifically picked out I know that we're doing a video today and I specifically picked out the outfit I did because it's like peace, love happiness with the flowers and everything because it made me think of that time in the '60s when it was like peace, love happiness, man and that's what it was about. It wasn't about the money or the wealth or the power. It was just, hey, let's love our fellow man, let's, share the if we could buy the world a Coke, let's hold hands with each other. That's really just what I want to do. I want to just heal the world as much as I can.

Gresham Harkless 9:38

I definitely appreciate that. I wanted to switch gears a little bit and I want to ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be like an app, a book, or a habit that you have. But what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 9:50

I love books. I'm a reader. I'm a book lover or I'm a podcaster so many things. I love Brene Round. I love to dare to lead. I love everything about what she embodies. I feel like Brene Brown is somebody that really helped me to come into my own. She is somebody that helped me to realize, yeah, that's definitely what I'm about. I'm about that vulnerability. I'm about that wrongness I'm about that realness and it's okay to be that. I was always in the shadows, I was someone who was trying to stand out, but people kept shoving me down, saying, Don't be that way and Brene Brown really helped me to be able to do that.

Gresham Harkless 10:45

I appreciate all those hacks. Now I wanted to ask you for what I call a sea of nuggets. That could be like a word of wisdom or a piece of advice. Or if you can happen to a time machine what would you tell your younger business self?

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 10:57

I would tell my younger business self to go for it. I would tell my younger business self and anyone who's in that newer business, myself to really just do it. I think that a lot of people and I hear this often with my clients fear stops you all the time.

Gresham Harkless 11:20

Absolutely. It's very important to feel the fear and do it anyway. It's not Elon Musk's, the great innovators of the world never had any fear. They just were able to not let it paralyze them.

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 11:33

Right, exactly.

Gresham Harkless 11:35

Awesome. Now I wanted to ask you my absolute favourite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. We're hoping to have different quote-unquote, CEOs on the show. So Trisha, what does being a CEO mean to you?

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 11:50

Well, being a CEO, to me means the autonomy to live life on my terms. I think that sometimes we get caught up in the world of a cubicle, we have to live life, the way that everybody else wants us to live. We have to live life the way our boss wants us to live, we have to live life the way our mom or husband or the way everyone else wants us to. I think that being a CEO is important that we stay true to our brand. I think that that's important, staying true to our brand, no matter what you're doing, whether you're an entrepreneur, whether you're the CEO of your company, or whether you're the CEO of your life, if you're the mom of the house, you're the CEO of your life and staying true to that brand. That's important. I think that being the CEO means staying true to the brand and living life on your terms.

Gresham Harkless 12:53

Nice. I love that definition from that perspective. Because I think the brand could be as you said, something different for everybody. Making sure you're in alignment and staying true to that is the greatest way for you to be successful and to be the best CEO that you can be.

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 13:08

Exactly.

Gresham Harkless 13:09

Awesome. Well Trisha, I truly appreciate that definition. I appreciate your time even more. What I wanted to do is pass you the mic so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional you can let our readers and listeners know and then of course how best they can get a hold of you and find out about all the awesome things you're working on.

Trisha Trixie Hunter-Merrill 13:24

Well as I mentioned, I do have my book that is still available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. It is Falling into Fabulous: A Phoenix Rising, you can get it on hardcover or on paperback. It's available on Falling into Fabulous: A Phoenix Rising or as I said you can get it on those. I have my website which is Fall in Love now I can't think of fall Yep, Create a Life You Fall In Love With. Sorry, my new website it's I'm still getting used to everything out there in the world. You can find me on Facebook or my legacy of love project on Instagram and out there in the world and Create a Life you Can Fall in Love with. I just want to share with the world How to Create a Life you Can Fall in Love with. Leave a Legacy of Love is just a daily inspirational quote.

As I said before, it's just a different theme each month. I just want to share inspirational and thought-provoking questions. Sometimes it's a question it's just a statement. I just want to share with other people how to think differently about life. I just want them to be able to think about their life in a different way. I want them to think about how to just enjoy their life and just fall in love with life. Life is so different than the world that we live in now. I just think that we have such a great way of thinking about life nowadays with Social media and everything, especially now going into 2020, that we have to think about life in a different way.

I just want to give people an opportunity to see life differently. So that website is fallinlovewithyourlife.org. They can join it through Facebook, they can join it through the website, and the Legacy of Love project is My Legacy of Love. So thank you so much for allowing me to share the new things that are in my life and being able to wrap my arms around the world and share my love with the world today.

Nice. I love that definition in that perspective. Because I think the brand could be as you said, something different for everybody. Make sure you're in alignment and staying true to that is the greatest way for you to be successful for you to be the best CEO that you can be.

TrishaTrixie Hunter-Merrill 13:08

I just want to share with the world How to Create a Life you Can Fall in Love with. Leave a Legacy of Love is just daily inspirational quotes. As I said before, it's just a different theme each month. I just want to share inspirational and thought provoking questions. Sometimes it's a question sometimes it's just a statement. I just want to share with other people how to think differently about life. I just want them to be able to think about their life in a different way. I want them to think about how to just enjoy their life and just to fall in love with life. Life is so different than the world that we live in now. I just think that we have such a great way of thinking about life nowadays with Social media and everything, especially now going into 2020, that we have to think about life in a different way, that I just want to give people an opportunity to see life differently.
