IAM2498 – The Power of Checking In: Broker’s Journey
Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

Gresham Harkless discusses missing his day 178 recording due to a disrupted routine caused by his baby’s sleep regression and adjusting to a time zone change, focusing how life’s unpredictability can impact consistency.
Gresham highlights the isolating nature of this work, which can sometimes cause one to lose sight of the purpose and approach.
He emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive environment, anchored in faith, and cites 1 Corinthians 3:7 to reinforce that true growth comes from God, not solely from personal effort.
Despite the challenges, he remains hopeful, referencing a trainer’s experience where things began to shift after five months, suggesting that persistence can eventually lead to progress and clarity.

Gresham Harkless 00:28
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.
And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.
We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.
But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.
Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.
I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.
But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.
So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.
But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.
So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.
The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.
So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.
With that being said, it's day 179 of this franchise broker journey. Funny enough, I forgot to record yesterday.
So that was 178. I forgot to record yesterday. I've actually talked with one of my brokers.
He randomly called me to ask me about going to training. And I basically just told him that I'm not sure because my baby is actually going through regression right now.
[restrict paid=”true”]
It's part of the reason that I didn't get to record yesterday is because my day was just kind of thrown off.
He woke up a lot earlier or I woke up later actually because I thought he was going to sleep more and he did sleep more and I was also still on Texas time and all those things happen.
So with that being said I think the thing that's coming up for me is like a lot of times when you're in isolation you can sometimes have you can forget why you're doing the things that you're doing and how to do the things that you're doing.
So as I kind of go through the process and the journey and take the steps It's just understanding like how to transition towards the new thing that you're doing, what that's going to look like, and just kind of taking steps from there.
So I think one of the things that I've noticed from a lot of people, sometimes there's just a perception or this believe that you can't do multiple things.
And I don't believe that's true, especially if you have a team. I think that you have the opportunity to balance multiple things if you are able to be very strategic and very impactful with the time that you have.
So I'm looking forward to really leveraging that a lot. But I think making sure your environment is set up to allow you to succeed is a huge thing.
My faith is one of the biggest things that I have that's in place. So I'm constantly, constantly having conversations with God.
And I don't, by any means, feel like I'm The perfect person or anything like that.
I just kind of try to know where my faith lies and some of the things that I try to do and one of the things that kind of has come up is this verse 1 Corinthians 3:7 which says, so neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God gives the growth.
And I think so many times when we're trying to grow where I'm at this point where I'm like, hey, we need to grow I need to get more sales, more opportunities and things like that.
Relying on God for that to happen is the reality of what I need to do. But I think that only happens if you have that environment that allows that to happen.
And me having the daily habit of going to the good book and you being around other people, that's going to help you to remind yourself of the things that you need to do and the places you need to be so that you can get to where you want to be.
And I think that as you go through those trials and tribulations and definitely, like I've talked about it pretty candidly, like this has definitely been a challenging time and probably not the ideal time to start everything.
I think when I was talking with my fellow broker, we were just literally talking around that.
It's like, man, that clock starts, you started that clock. You probably shouldn't have started the clock as late as you did, but it really only takes a little bit of time.
Sometimes we get those things up and going, it could be like a month or two.
And then all of a sudden you're looking at it and things are completely different.
So I think I remember our trainer, we talked about our trainer and our trainer said, it was five months.
He's like, why did I do this? What am I doing? And then the light switched.
Some of the things he was doing started to work out. So crying and hoping that that's what happens to me.
But we'll definitely see how all these things happen. And then we'll see how to take it from there.
But that environment that you're around, the connections that you have, like being able to kind of mastermind around those things.
Sometimes can be your your best asset so just going back to that just trying to do the things.
And now I gotta get the little man up because you can hear him in the background he's he's talking talking talking so I'll get him up.
Please let me know if there's anything I could do to help and of course looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
