IAM2499 – Embrace Movement: Focus on the How

Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

A smiling man stands next to a sign reading "Embrace Movement: Focus on the How" with podcast and social media icons displayed below.

Gresham Harkless shares a moment of clarity about the difference between planning and moving forward in faith.

He reflects on how he frequently gets lost in weighing his options, when in reality, the problem lies in his reluctance to take action.

Motivated by a message from Charaiá Rush, he highlights the idea that faith requires action, even when the path isn’t clear. Gresham realizes he’s been postponing certain steps, thinking he needed to achieve a goal first, when in fact, those steps are meant to come before the breakthrough.

Furthermore, Gresham recognizes that movement, no matter how small or unsure, is how trust is expressed, and that progress comes not from waiting but from engaging with purpose.

Intro 00:00

Are you ready to hear business stories and learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales, and level up your business from awesome CEOs, entrepreneurs, and founders without listening to a long, long, long interview?

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresh values your time and is ready to share with you the valuable info you're in search of. This is the I AM CEO Podcast.

Gresham Harkless 00:28

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.

And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.

We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.

But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.

Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.

I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.

But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.

So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.

But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.

So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.

The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.

So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.

So I just kind of had an epiphany. So I had to do a quick video. I actually have to run out and do some other stuff.

But I wanted to do this recording just largely because this epiphany just hit me where so many times I get caught into this, like, should I go right or should I go left?

And I'm like, hey, I should really focus on this or I should really focus on that.

But I think the thing that really I think stands stood out to me more than anything else with this message that I saw somebody else post, and I was like, hey, I have to post it.

I'm going to read it out. It really stuck with me around this idea of moving by faith.

And sometimes you're not moving by faith. So whether I go right or left, up or down, side to side, it's around how you're moving in that space.

So I'm more caught up on, should I go right or left? But in reality, it's really, I know which way I should go, and I need to move in that space.

I'm just going to read this because it really stuck with me. God can't order the steps you take. You're praying for direction while standing still.

Now granted, I'm not necessarily standing still. I have definitely made movement, but I haven't made movement in a way that I would make movement.

So I think that's the difference. It's like you're not necessarily standing still, but you're not moving the way that you know and I know that I'm able to move.

So especially related to this franchise broker journey, there's stuff that I said that I was going to do.

At this next step after I got something but really in reality I should be moving there first now don't get me wrong had lots of changes that have happened.

Over the last year, six months eight months or so since you know I found out about even doing this and got down that path.

But I think right now what's speaking to me is that I need to move in the way that I'm supposed to move in here it is, you're asking for clarity while avoiding obedience.

You want God to light a path, but you won't leave the driveway. That's not faith, that's fear addressed in spiritual language.

God is not in the business of steering apart cars. He's a God of movement, a God who meets you on the way, not just in the waiting. He orders steps, not stagnation.

And if you never lift your foot, there's nothing for him to guide. We say trust him, but trust looks like motion.

Trust looks like starting the business, applying for the job, walking away from what's breaking, saying yes to what scares you. Trust looks like taking a step even when the scare case isn't finished.

Because obedience unlocks the next instruction, God didn't promise to order your imagination, he promised to order your steps.

That means you've got to move, even if it's trembling, even if it's small, even if it's unsure.

He's not obligated to choreograph a life you refuse to participate in, so tap in. This is by Charaiá Rush and it's C-H-A-R-A-I-A.

So I want to give proper attribution just because this is a very powerful thing.

And I think it's something where I don't, I won't necessarily say I haven't made any steps or made any things, but I think there's things that I've been planning on doing with my next step in reality.

Those next steps that I'm thinking of doing after I reach a certain goal is actually the thing I should be doing right now.

So when I'm operating, moving my faith, you operate, you move differently. This is why I say a lot more of not what path I take, what thing I'm going to focus on. It's like how I'm focused on this thing.

And I think when I get, and I'm honest around where I'm at and what I'm doing, I'm feeling like I'm not doing as much as I could be doing, because I told myself I would only take that step after I reached this goal or after I did this thing.

But in reality, the thing that I want to do is probably the thing that I need to do right now.

So I don't necessarily need to do all the things right now, but I do need to make sure that the things that I think are how I move, the race that I run, I need to run my race and not do what everybody else is doing.

That's my soapbox. That's my realization, the epiphany that I just had. And I'm going to take it from there. So we'll see what happens.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And of course, looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
