In this special episode, day 157 of the franchise broker journey, Gresham Harkless reflects on the challenges and lessons of staying focused while managing personal and professional responsibilities.

Gresham discusses the importance of blocking out distractions and leveraging early morning routines to lock in on key goals.

His current focus is building a lead generation system that supports his ventures like Blue Star, Blue 16, and CB Nation. Although he didn't make significant progress during the first week of his 12-week year, he recognizes the value in the feedback he received and intends to use it to refine his approach moving forward.

Additionally, with his baby starting to sleep better and grow, he has more time to focus on his business, emphasizing the balance between sacrifice and growth.

Gresham emphasizes the importance of staying focused on his goals and being flexible as new challenges come up, with the 12-week year providing a framework to ensure steady progress.

Gresham Harkless 00:26

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.

And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.

We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.

But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.

Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.

I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.

But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.

So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.

[restrict paid=”true”]

But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.

So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.

The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.

So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.

And just like that is day 157 of the franchise broker journey. And I'm honestly not even sure, what I want to talk about today.

Just I had this idea of like talking around, locking in and really getting focused on the things that need to be done to be successful and really just staying true to the distractions, the things that happen.

I would say like on every, on probably a daily basis, there's things that kind of distract me from the goals that I really want to focus on.

And sometimes you just have to realize that you're not going to be able to stop the distractions, but you have to really lean more into the focus.

And I think that's where the morning routine has been really big for me and being able to kind of lock in, you know, very early on in the beginning of the day.

But I think frankly, just being able to understand what your goals and aspirations are, which is why I think it's been so huge for me to be able to say that my 12-week year goal was really focused on generating leads for a lead generation system.

And the lead generation system feeds into Blue Star, feeds into Blue 16, feeds into whatever CB Nation is going to end up becoming.

The bottom line is that I really wanted to create this space where I am able to lock in on those things.

And I think that is extremely important to do because when you're able to um, navigate all the things that are happening and do them well.

And not lose sight of the priority and how impactful that priority is and ends up being a big thing.

So as I, get done with the first week of the 12 week year, I feel like I didn't get much traction, but I did get a lot of feedback.

And the important thing is I have to lean more into that feedback now. So taking what I learned during the first week, doing my update and my recap of things and then leaning more into that.

And I think that those are things that I just would say, hey, I would just do them.

But these are like high priority things I need to do at the beginning of the day.

And I think too, like now with the baby starting to sleep better, being in his own crib instead of the bassinet beside us and starting to starting to grow up and maybe even teeth and doing all those things.

It's given me more space to kind of get back to those things because I think for the first three months, it's just like all locked in on him.

What does he need? Trying to do things here and there, but you're not really locked in like I am now.

So of course I have a monitor literally right beside me watching him, but at the same time, it's not he's not literally sitting in the room right now or laying in the room right now.

So those are things that you know you just continue to kind of navigate the growth and realize that it's giving you more opportunity to kind of get back to who you are.

Get back to those foundational elements that are needed and i think that you I have a better idea now that sacrifice is needed kind of in the beginning.

But every level you elevate to and you go up to, there's a new challenge. But it is extremely important to kind of lock in and know what you're ultimately gonna do, which is why I love the 12-week year.

Because it says for 12 weeks, I'm gonna lock in on this, or really 13 weeks if you really look at it, and get as much traction as I can.

So I'm looking forward to that, seeing what happens, and then ultimately we just kind of go from there.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help, and of course I look forward to giving you more and more updates.
