IAM2414 – The Art of Breaking Eggs Confidently

Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

Smiling person in front of a collage of faces, promoting podcast episode 2144 titled "The Art of Breaking Eggs Confidently." Streaming platforms' logos are displayed below.

Gresham discusses how sometimes in life and business, you have to break things apart to make something new and better. This idea of “breaking eggs to make an omelet” symbolizes how, to progress, you might need to disrupt or change things completely.

He mentions that he is in the process of rethinking and rebuilding his digital marketing business, CBNation, and Blue Star.

After running the digital marketing business for 11 years, he has realized that it’s not in the form he initially envisioned, and he still believes in the power of creating media brands and content that solve real-world problems.

Gresham points out that true entrepreneurship is all about solving problems. He’s working on refining their purpose and focus so they can offer more targeted solutions.

He emphasizes that entrepreneurship is a journey, not a quick fix, and that it takes time to build a successful business.

Gresham strives to simplify complicated concepts and make them easily available, ultimately assisting individuals in overcoming obstacles in entrepreneurship.

Intro 00:01

Are you ready to hear business stories and learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales, and level up your business from awesome CEOs, entrepreneurs, and founders without listening to a long, long, long interview?

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresh values your time and is ready to share with you the valuable info you're in search of. This is the I AM CEO Podcast.

Gresham Harkless 00:29

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.

And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.

We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.

But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.

Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.

I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.

But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.

So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.

But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.

So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.

The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.

So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.

There’s a quote that says you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet and often there's these kind of binaries of life.

And frankly of business as well too where sometimes in order to go faster and farther we have to slow down to go farther we can't go by ourselves we have to go together.

And in order to make an omelet you have to break a few eggs and or cake or whatever that might be.

The point is that often when you're trying to change things you have to disrupt things. You have to completely rebuild things in a completely different way.

I'm definitely in that stage right now where I'm seeing even from the digital marketing to the CB Nation to Blue Star, which is new in and of itself, kind of in that mode of testing out different things, trying out different things, and really rebuilding a lot of things.

And I think the interesting thing is that I've been running the digital marketing business for 11 years.

And did I think that it would be in this form, shape, or fashion that it is? No, I didn't. But what I've always believed is that there's definitely a great opportunity.

And I still believe in building media companies, media brands, and creating a tremendous amount of content around a solution to a problem.

One of the things that I think we've kind of somewhat struggled with at CB Nation is actually identifying the problem that we want to solve.

I think the content we've created has been very much general related to entrepreneurship, but I think when you start to realize that entrepreneurship is really about solving problems.

Then you get to ultimately, bridge that gap. And that ends up being your quote-unquote North Star, your purpose, your reason for doing the things that you do.

And a lot of what we're doing with CB Nation is starting to refine that a lot more. Blue 16 is all around visibility, helping people to be found online doing that.

And I think that there's, many different aspects of that. There's your website design and support and being able to kind of provide the foundation by which people are going to communicate, their messaging and things like that.

And with Blue Star, the really big focus is to help people to step into entrepreneurship and step into entrepreneurship in a way that is going to have that increased likelihood of succeeding.

And entrepreneurship is definitely something that is not easy. It's a challenge and there's a lot of fear around it, but that's where franchising comes in, because it is not a little bit of money.

To be able to make these investments. I had a call yesterday where the person wasn't really financially in the place that they probably needed to be to have and do a franchise.

But had a great conversation, I think, around some of the things that can be done to get to that step.

And I think when you are thinking about franchising, you're thinking about the journey of entrepreneurship, you're thinking about what things you could do, you always want to understand that it is, in fact, a journey.

You don't flick a switch and then your business is that seven, eight figure business, unless you have that seven or eight figure client from Jump, which you don't hear about those stories a lot.

But the point being is that with everything that we're pivoting into, I think we're leaning a lot more into here's the solution.

Here's the media content that's around that solution to help serve the clients or customers or candidates as in Blue Star that we're serving.

So I'm really kind of intrigued by this opportunity to really create a lot of content around franchising.

I feel like there's a dearth of content, and there's a tremendous opportunity because I think it is a niche within entrepreneurship that is really powerful.

And as I start to have these conversations, the things that are ultimately kind of coming up is that people don't know much about that and people don't know much around that journey.

So to be able to kind of marry that information and content along with those questions that people are asking, I think it provides a tremendous opportunity.

And especially from a content place, because I don't think that there are as many content creators as I thought there would be. I see some agencies, some brands that are starting to do that.

But I think the really big thing that can be done is really to start to answer those questions, start to give away the quote-unquote trade secrets, those things like that going through this journey.

So that's a lot of what I'm hopefully aiming to do is to be able to solve those problems that break down a lot of that information and make it accessible, because that's where you start to break those eggs.

That's where the opportunity ends up lying. And holistically, like us at Blue 16, what I think we're going to shift more into is being that media company with multiple brands that are within it.

But each of those brands has to be really clear about the solution that they're solving. And that's where I'm starting to kind of color in those parts and really start to color outside.
