Gresham Harkless 00:29
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.
And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.
We're also going to do a kind of sub-site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.
But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.
Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.
I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.
But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.
So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.
But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.
So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.
The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.
So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.
Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh here. It's day 29 of this burger journey, and today's my rest day. Typically on Wednesday I have my rest. I'm a big believer.
So I believe that Jesus even took time away from doing all the miracles and things that he did to rest, so we need to rest too.
Of course, Sunday is typically that day, but typically what I do is I will have kind of midweek as an opportunity for me to kind of recharge.
[restrict paid=”true”]
I won't do the workouts that I do in the morning. I won't do workouts in the afternoon, evening either.
I've just kind of recharged. But one of the things that also came up for me, and one of the reasons that I chose the path that I did to start the burger journey was because of being able kind of to dial into the community.
I always say your environment determines your altitude, how high you're going to fly. Sometimes it's really important to have an environment due to that.
And as I kind of go through this journey, I'm looking at a few different things that can help me to generate leads and opportunities in different ways.
And I think right now the broker portals, they call them lead portals, that I got through the FBA have been okay.
They've been pretty good. I got one really awesome call, but I also had some no-shows. Yesterday, I had some people that said that they already found somebody, even though we set up a meeting and things like that.
Not even found somebody, they said that they found a franchise already, which those are always unfortunate, but I've had sales experience in the past.
So because of that sales experience, I've had probably, I won't say everything happened, but I've had a lot of things happen and having a business and being and doing sales, you literally will hear everything from people.
So, the one person that said that they already found a franchise, didn't really give them more details, didn't show up for the meeting, said that they were double booked.
When I reached out, they said, oh, I found another franchise, if that's what you're looking for. So, it's one of those things where you have to find people that are ready.
They're comfortable doing it because this is not a journey that you force people to take some type of action.
It's something where you guide people. You make sure that they're okay with it. You get their consent.
They are kind of in the driver's seat and you're just kind of guiding and letting them know of things that they want to know about.
But having been in sales, sometimes people don't say and aren't very direct, but that's just part of the journey. It's part of sales.
Even though traditionally we're not really in sales, we're in kind of consultation and coaching, maybe even be might be the right phrase.
But at the same time, whenever you're trying to get candidates, you're going through a sales process.
So it's so important to have that, to have that understanding of people. But just frankly, to know sometimes you know when to fold them, so to speak.
So but I think one of the things I wanted to bring up community is because I also had my weekly call with a member from the FBA.
So Alex actually helped out a tremendous amount just in terms of me. It's so funny, like little things that might be very little to him end up being everything.
So one of the things he talked about is like, hey, we're setting ourselves up for six months. And so I wanted to bring that up because as we start things, we have the excitement, the exuberance, all of the feelings.
We want to make sure that we have that environment that's around us to help to make sure that we're successful.
So having that meeting was super helpful. Because I had another person that I was set up to do a meeting with and they didn't show up either.
I was running a little bit behind, but they also did not show up. So I reached out to them and they said, would they call back?
Of course, they did not call back. So that's part of that. But you just kind of remember that you kind of have to filter through to get to the people that you can actually help.
And as we start to, again, think about the monkey gym, the monkey bars at recess is that as you're swinging from one rung to another, you have to let go of that previous rung.
So these people that are not ready, they might come back around. They may not. But at the end of the day, you swing to the next rung.
And that's going to allow you to be open up. You don't wallow in the things that didn't go according to plan because it didn't happen for a reason and that's okay.
So having that environment and that culture even us I don't know if we'll meet Thursday but having the two members of our class as well too together that's going to be super huge.
And us speaking like bi-weekly is going to be huge just in terms of us taking the temperature and seeing how things are going but overall you know things are going pretty well.
I'll continue to kind of take the wins when I can take the wins. And I also did some territory checks for one of my up-and-coming candidates, which was super awesome just to kind of see what's available to get ready for the presentation after he takes his Oracle.
So that's what's going on in my world. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And of course, looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
