Invest your money. If you don't have a lot of money in your account, just reinvest it in a personal development. And the other one is the magic bullet to getting anything is you got to do the work. There's no getting around doing the work.

Intro 00:13

Are you ready to hear business stories and learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales, and level up your business from awesome CEOs, entrepreneurs and founders without listening to a long, long, long interview?

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresh values your time and is ready to share with you the valuable info you're in search of.

This is the IAMCEO podcast.

Gresham Harkless 00:41

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the IAMCEO podcast and I appreciate you listening to this episode. If you've been listening this year, you know that we hit 1600 episodes at the beginning of this year. We're doing something a little bit different where we're repurposing our favorite episodes around certain categories, topics, or as I like to call them, the business pillars that we think are going to be extremely impactful for CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, and what I like to call the CB Nation architects who are looking to level up their organizations.

This month, we are focusing on operations. The systems will set you free. So think about systems, think about flow, sustainability, potentially working out in your morning routine, waking up early, e-commerce, different business models. Think of the operations in the models that basically set up the foundation to allow the creativity within organizations, but also to make sure the trains are running on time and things are going as they should.

Now, this is extremely important because we often can turn to the sexy parts of business and forget about the operations and how important that is. So I really want to focus this month on this specific topic. So sit back and enjoy this special episode at the IAMCEO podcast.

Hello. Hello. Hello. This is Gresh from the IAMCEO podcast and I have a very special guest on the show today. I have Billy Batt of Chrome Consulting and Management. Billy, it's great to have you on the show.

Billy Batt 02:00

Yes, really excited to be here. Excited to be here.

Gresham Harkless 02:02

Definitely excited to have you on as well. Before we jump into the interview, I want to read a little bit more about Billy so you can hear about all the awesome things that he's doing.

Billy has been in the sales and marketing business for the past 6 years. He's built his business while working 10 to 14 hours a day in the oil field of Northern Canada. Due to his hard work and dedication, his agency not only survives, but thrives through perfect systems and management. Chrome Consulting and Management was developed through many trial and error attempts at entrepreneurship, and from assisting multiple successful events to highly successful marketing campaigns, they go to bat for their partners and their clients.

Billy has worked with the real estate professionals and contractors, helping them accelerate their business sales, recruitment and their marketing systems. He has achieved success in commercial and residential roofing and solar, coaching, kitchen and bath remodeling, rent-to-own investor and among many other fields.

Billy is a 10 X ambassador, because every activity that he undertakes has the potential of always 10 Xing. He's also the host of the New World Marketing Order, founder of the veterans of North American America Foundation and the CMO of Pro-choice roofing.

Billy, great to have you on the show. Are you ready to speak to the IAMCEO community?

Billy Batt 03:08

Yes, yes, of course, my friend, of course.

[restrict paid=”true”]

Gresham Harkless 03:10

Awesome. Let's do it then. So, to kick everything off, I wanted to rewind the clock a little bit, hear a little bit more on how you got started. What I call your CEO story.

Billy Batt 03:18

Yeah, so we can take it back. There are a couple of places I could take it back, but I'll just start here. Long story short, I worked in the oil field for a long period of time. Eight years to be exact, and I was running a cruise of 100, 150 guys building gas plants, pipelines, all that stuff. It was a volatile industry, so it was feast or famine. So you're either eating good or you weren't eating at all. I had a daughter on the way in around 2015 and the oil field crashed at that time. So I had to figure out a new way of being more stable and controlling my own income.

And so I started reading books, but picked up the 10X rule to be exact and got involved with it in Grant Cardone's, world, the 10X crew and all that. One thing led to another, started paying for coaches, learning lead gen, learning marketing, learning branding, website development. One thing led to another, built my own business, started working with contractors because that's a field that I was familiar with and then working with real estate and contracting. Contracting, you're working on real estate, so tied in a little bit together.

Now I'm like head of recruitment for a couple of multimillion-dollar roof companies. Also, their marketing CMO, and then I run my own inner circle for well, me and my partner do. The new world marketing order inner circle where we consult agencies that work with contractors and always innovating, building new softwares and new marketing techniques so we can stay ahead of the curve.

Gresham Harkless 04:45

Yeah I appreciate you for sharing that and, definitely sorry to hear the first part of like how everything went to the stratosphere that you're going into now, but sometimes it's those experiences that kind of catapult us into where we ultimately should be.

Billy Batt 04:58

Yeah. And even then, like nothing changes. Your challenges just change. That's it. You'll still have hard times even while you're doing good and you'll have two things that work and three things go wrong, that's why it's called being an entrepreneur. You just know how to roll with the punches.

Gresham Harkless 05:12

Yeah, absolutely. You start to really drill in on what you can, what's going well, and it starts to double down on that. And I'm saying that not everything is all sunshine and rainbows, which I think sometimes we forget about.

I know you touched on a little bit on how you work with the clients and in different kind of positions you have in different things that you're doing. Could you take us through a little bit more on that? And of course, what we can find on your podcast as well.

Billy Batt 05:33

Yeah, so I'll bring in a lot of pretty cutthroat entrepreneurs that really came from nothing and then turned into something. I got some of the best copywriters on there, some of the best fulfillment agencies when it comes to find VAs and just some rockstar people who came from prison to hitting six and seven figures, all kinds of stuff.

That's on the podcast. And then what was the 2nd part of the question about?

Gresham Harkless 05:55

Just how you work with your clients?

Billy Batt 05:58

Yeah, so we actually focus on building the systems of full transparency. There are a lot of marketing agencies out there. They just want to do the done for you and try to hide all their secrets. And I think that's a bad way to do business. I think, even if you're a contractor and you're a service-based contractor, but after your service, the homeowner has something that they can be either proud of or feel safe in their home because the roof is protected and whatever it is, but they still get something intangible.

That's what we bring to the other contractors and other investors and whoever we work with is we're not just doing the service. We actually build the stuff out for you and give you a playbook so that, for whatever reason, if you ever want to hire in-house later on, you have a framework you can go off of. Most people like to stick with us anyways, because we do good work and we stay on the ball and we make sure that our guys are taken care of.

Gresham Harkless 06:47

Yeah, I definitely appreciate that. And like you said, I think even if you're a homeowner, if you own your home, or even if you own your business, you want to be able to have that playbook because you don't want to feel you own your business, but you end up being beholden to an agency sometimes.

So you don't have that opportunity to really grow away from them or grow even with them to some degree without that playbook. I love everything about the podcast and what you've been able to build and tell those stories, because I think so many times, when you go through those difficulties, we touched on a little bit, you don't know that there's light at the end of the tunnel until you hear sometimes somebody else's story. And that's the most inspiring thing.

Billy Batt 07:17

Yeah, yeah. And I have even seen in a group, literally 3 posts in the past 2 weeks of somebody that it's ripped off a couple of people and hasn't provided a good service. And it's because they don't see anything that's going on. And it's who knows, maybe the contractor might not be able to close deals or maybe it could be their fault. But, that lack of transparency is really where the divide happens between any marketing company and a business.

If you can provide that and open that up for them, then, what's going to happen is you're going to build instant trust, and they're going to be able to see what's going on. I got a client that a brand new industry never worked in the industry before, it's 3M window film, and it helps reduce their energy bills to the see-through window film.

I've been working with them for maybe 3 weeks now, and they've already closed almost 20, 000 dollars in sales and that's just on the first go around. They still have a lot of follow-up and referrals to do. And it hasn't even been 3 weeks into their campaign. They're already knocking it out the park.

Gresham Harkless 08:15

I wanted to ask you now for what I call your secret sauce. This could be for yourself personally, or the business or combination of both. But what do you feel sets you apart and makes you unique?

Billy Batt 08:25

We really innovate. Here's an example. So LinkedIn has been one of our primary products that we use, and we use automation tools and also a little bit of graphic design and copy. But one thing that LinkedIn will literally put a wrench in everybody's program by cutting out the amount of outreach are able to do and connection campaigns. So we spent the last 3 weeks working, trying to find someone we can partner with on software, which we ended up having to do and found the workaround. So we can actually increase those connections back up and be able to deliver continuously for our clients that are utilizing that software. So that's one thing there.

Another thing is that we're always looking at different metrics and add copies when it comes to our paid advertisement, and we're even doing things like referral booking systems as well. So we try to add in multiple systems into a business, not just, Hey, let's just do Facebook ads. It's like, where's the free leads? Where are the referrals? What are you doing with your old leads? Let's do a reactivation campaign. And let's also build these systems on top of what you guys already have going and leverage your current network. Plus do add-ons.

Gresham Harkless 09:33

I wanted to switch gears a little bit, and ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be like an app, a book or a habit that you have, but what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

Billy Batt 09:44

Oh, I live by my calendar religiously. So if I didn't want it before I would always put things in my notes, but now I time block out my whole day. Everything is time block. I might even be doing the 75 hard program. Now I just started that, I've been running as well almost 4 miles a day and that goes into my calendar.

My eating goes into my calendar. If I'm going on a date, it's going in my calendar. If I'm making a sales calls, if I'm doing follow-up, if I'm building a system, if I have team meetings, whatever it is I'm doing goes into the calendar religiously. And that there is it literally when I was 1st, starting out and I was only doing roughly around 10K a month within the first two months that ended up 5X of my income.

Gresham Harkless 10:28

Yeah by putting everything into your calendar.

Billy Batt 10:30

Yeah. Yeah. It was more organized. Yeah. 100% and then utilizing my CRM too and take a lead notes.

Gresham Harkless 10:36

Yeah. Do you think that allowed you to maybe be more focused on other things than having to worry about if you're supposed to be in a meeting, what you're eating, if you're doing the run, all those things that putting in a calendar allows you to be well?

Billy Batt 10:45

Not just, it also made my time, the time that I had squared away more effective as well. So like, when I would time block out a follow-up stuff for 30 minutes okay, I would get as much done as I couldn't 30 minutes. And rather than just saying, Oh, I'm going to do follow-up, I actually make it like, this is what I'm doing for the next 30 minutes.

And that I would get more done in those 30 minutes. And as I said, like, when you compress the time, you make yourself do more in a shorter period of time. So, putting time limits on the tasks I'm doing as well, too.

Gresham Harkless 11:18

Yeah, that's huge. I appreciate you drilling down a little bit more because, being effective is just, I don't know what the law is, but your work will basically expand to the amount of time that you work a lot for it. So, if you take it 30 minutes, and you'll spend 30 minutes, you say it's an hour, then you're going to spend an hour.

So it allows you to be more creative, more innovative and more effective when you're able to say, okay, this is 30 minutes. I have to get it done now and then it starts to happen.

Billy Batt 11:40

Yeah, and actually, one of the other things that I'm doing right now is I'm learning how to learn faster. So I'm like, from the world's fastest reader in Jim Quick, I'm taking listening to those podcasts and their trainings while I'm working out and then actually dedicate some actual time to go back through it again and then implement.

So I can become more productive personally.

Gresham Harkless 12:03

Yeah, I appreciate you sharing that even touch on it as well, too. Two is how you were able to lean on the experts. You mentioned Grant Cardone and everything that you're doing from that standpoint, how that's going to help you to level up and continue to do that in different aspects of your life and, of course, in your business as well, too.

Billy Batt 12:17

And yeah, not even just that and then when you get more effective guys, like I've been the work hard, like 16 hours a day. Obviously I worked in the oil field for a while and then built my business. But there's sometimes where you're like, man I need those time for yourself.

So when you allocate those time blocks and you get what you're going to do done in that day, and you hit some targets, then what you're going to do is by the time 6 o'clock runs around, you're able to take a couple of hours, either whether it's a personal development or time with family, but you're able to just get what you need done in that day in that amount of time and then move into what you want to do for yourself.

Gresham Harkless 12:55

Yeah, absolutely. And I think so many times we forget about, when we're charging ahead, those recharge hours that recharge time that's gonna allow us to be more effective not by continuing to work, but sometimes by taking a step back and doing whatever you need to fill up your cup so that you can be more effective.

Billy Batt 13:08

Exactly. Yeah. And right now, I got a bit of a big push with that LinkedIn software coming out, but I will be doing this week. I'll be putting in those, 14, 16 hour days, and then the weekend I'll have on my little one too.

Gresham Harkless 13:20

Yeah, absolutely have that time with your family. I wanted to ask you now for what I call a CEO nugget. So this could be a word of wisdom or a piece of advice. It could be something you would tell a client as a piece of advice or something you might tell yourself if you were to hop into a time machine.

Billy Batt 13:35

Oh there's a couple. Well one could be invest your money. If you don't have a lot of money in your account, just reinvest in the personal development. The other one is the magic bullet to getting anything is you got to do the work. There's no getting around doing the work. A lot of people try to look for the magic bullet. There it is.

Obviously having a mentor and a sense of direction is going to speed up that work that you're doing, but you still got to do it. there's no getting around it. And then I see that really big in the marketing space, a lot of people, they try to just find what's the magic funnel or what's the magic ad?

The magic thing is also setting up the ad, but you got to pick up the phone to call the leads. You also got to do your follow-up. You also need to make sure you're delivering and over-delivering, right? There's more to just having one magic bullet. There are always five other things that go along with that one bullet, anyways, and one of those things is doing the work.

Gresham Harkless 14:29

I want to ask you now my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. We're hoping to have different quote and quote CEOs on the show.

So, Billy, what does being a CEO mean to you?

Billy Batt 14:39

CEO to me, it is being able to control, make your own economy. I know that when I can put my finger on a certain button and I know it's going to print me a couple of dollars so I can go and do what it is that I want to do with my life at the end of the day. It's not just only doing the work, but using the work that you've done to build something stable and develop some passive income.

Whether that's through, recurring income payments, whether it's through software or real estate or whatever it is that you're doing business partnerships, JV deals. But using the work that you put in to build something for your future and whatever that future looks like to you, whatever success looks like to you, that's being an ultimate CEO.

Gresham Harkless 15:19

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Now I wanted to pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional that you can let our readers and listeners know. And of course, how best I can get ahold of you and find out about all the awesome things that you're working on.

Billy Batt 15:29

You can go to newworldmarketingorder.com. There's one spot you can go to. That's my podcast website. You can reach me on Instagram billytheofficial and Billy Batt on Facebook. You'll see me there. I'll either talk about my 5 and 1 method. You'll see it in my banner. So there's those LinkedIn and then LinkedIn the same thing.

Gresham Harkless 15:50

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. And to make it even easier, we'll have the links and information in the show notes as well, too so that people subscribe to the podcast, get ahold of you, find out about all the awesome things you and your team are working on.

So appreciate you, Billy, appreciate all the awesome things you're doing, and I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.
