IAM2660 – Unlock the Power of Reset and Reboot

Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

In this special episode, Gresham opens by discussing the need for a comprehensive “reboot” due to feeling overwhelmed by “so many things happening” and “spinning plates.”

He shares the critical importance of paying attention to one's mental state. Being honest about where things are at mentally is crucial to avoid constantly feeling like things are going wrong.

Gresh notes that his wife calls him a “fixer of things,” which, while positive, is also described as extremely draining. The cumulative and often simultaneous nature of problems can be overwhelming. As solutions are applied to one issue, more often arise, making it challenging to maintain balance.

The episode concludes by stressing the necessity of protecting one's peace and utilizing the awareness cultivated—often with the help of a coach—to manage the challenging seasons and the many responsibilities placed upon them.

Gresham Harkless Jr. 00:28
Hello. Hello. Hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO podcast. And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet. So to speak.

I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise. We're also going to do a kind of subcite within CB nation called a Franchise CEO.

So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that. But I just want to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.

Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey. going through and building this out.

I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously, for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises. But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.

So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the first couple of videos that have been created. But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube.

Check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this. So I have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing. The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build.

It needs you to be your unique self. So make sure to run your own race because nobody can run your race like you. This is Grace signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.

I was going to do this around how I needed to kind of go reboot all across the board. I think sometimes you just get in this period of overwhelm where there just seems to be so many things happening, so many plates spinning, as ChadTPT told me. You're trying to consolidate and figure out how do I tackle this? How do I get all these things happening and going and fixing all those things?

And I think that's ultimately like sometimes the challenge is like, how do you do that? But I think you know, as I started to try to record this, the, as I have the baby in my lap, aggressively in my lap, one of the things that happened was, monitor stopped working and it's like wow like you get in this place where it feels like when it rains it pours.

But I never really like that phrase because I feel like it focuses so much on what's not happening rather than what is happening what progress you are seeing and I think that's where the gratitude kind of comes into play that's where like honestly seeing where things are being honest about where they're at or be honest about what's going on too.

I think that's a really big place to be from a mental standpoint. And I think when you're not in that space all the time, it can sometimes cause you to always feel like things are going wrong. So I think that's one of the biggest takeaways is always to look at your mental, always pay attention to your mental and understand what's happening there.

And when you're able to pay attention to how you're thinking, what you're thinking, how you're feeling, you can sometimes catch yourself before you realize where you're at in it.

Sometimes you give yourself the things that you need, whether it's meditation, it's working out, it's praying, it's church, it's friends, it's It's more time working on the problem, whatever it is, you have a little bit more awareness of where things are. And I think as I start to juggle more things and as I start to try to solve those things, it becomes more aware of you, paying attention to where you're at.

But funny enough, my wife, she called me a fixer of things, largely because I said I would always find a way to fix things. And I feel like you hold that monitor, you're like, hey, I can't do the things that you'd like that.

But it is very draining because whenever there's problems that need to be solved, it becomes something on you. And a lot of times those problems happen at the same time, or sometimes when you work off one problem, more and more problems from there. And it becomes challenging to kind of be in that space. So I think for me, It's just protecting your peace and understanding where you're at.

That awareness part that I go through with my coach is one of the things that she really highlights on making you aware of where you are so that to pull the microphone closer to him and closer to me, it becomes more important to make sure that you are, you know, protecting that.

You are aware of that first and foremost, and then you know how to kind of manage those things. So definitely in a challenging season, a lot's been kind of placed on me over the last couple of years.

And yeah, we'll just continue to kind of take it a step at a time and go from there. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And of course, looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
