IAM2847 – Why Your Business Growth Is Tied to Personal Health
Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

The Separation Illusion
A common trap for many builders is treating their personal health and discipline as completely separate from their business operations. We often assume that long hours and strategic pivots are all it takes to scale, but the heavy reality is that how you show up physically and mentally directly dictates your ability to lead, sell, and execute. In this episode, featuring insights from Zach of SoForce Training, we dismantle the myth that business problems are always structural. More often than not, a business stagnation is actually an energy, discipline, or consistency bottleneck hidden within the leader.
Personal Accountability as an Operational Lever
When you are running a venture, you are the single greatest asset in your company's portfolio. If the person leading the business is depleted, unclear, or inconsistent, the daily operations will inevitably absorb that exact drag. True transformation doesn't come from a new surface-level tactic; it begins with personal accountability and a radical mind-first shift.
By establishing non-negotiable personal habits—such as a targeted morning routine focused on intentionality and mindset preparation—you build the confidence and self-awareness required to handle high-stakes client challenges and executive decisions.
Engineering Next-Level Growth
The core takeaway for any CEO sits squarely within the “Human and Operations Pillars”. If you feel stuck, inconsistent, or disconnected from your original momentum, the solution is rarely a flashy new strategy. Instead, it requires stepping back to analyze where you are trying to force corporate growth while neglecting the baseline habits that make you a resilient builder. Furthermore, you don't have to navigate this engineering process alone—investing in coaches, mentors, and aligned environments will radically accelerate your trajectory. Ask yourself this critical question: “Where am I waiting for a business solution when the actual bottleneck is a lack of personal accountability?”.

One thing I've noticed after interviewing thousands and thousands of entrepreneurs is that builders often treat their health like it's separate from the business. But the truth is, the way you show up physically, mentally affects the way you lead, sell, create, and ultimately serve your audience. I had an awesome, awesome conversation with Zach of Soulforce Training, which was the health and is that health and fitness are not just about appearance. For him, they actually become a catalyst for a complete mindset shift.
If you're building something meaningful, you're in the right place. This is the I Am CEO Podcast. I'm gresh and for over a decade I've had the honor and the privilege of Learning directly from CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners just like you on how to build. After recording more than 1600 episodes, one thing has become clear. Success isn't about following someone else's blueprint. And as I like to say on the show, if you run your own race, you can't lose, even when you feel the journey should be a straight and linear path. What I've come to find out is success is a lot more like a plate of spaghetti. So in this special segment and episode, I'm starting to curate and share some CEO hacks and CEO nuggets that I've been dying to share. Drawn from thousands of episodes with phenomenal guests that have provided awesome value on the show, but also my 10 years of business experience as well too. These lessons are designed to strengthen the foundational principles that every business is built on and guided by a simple equation that we always go back to with our content. Visibility plus resources times connections equals success. This is practical wisdom you can apply almost immediately, so be sure to check out the show notes for more resources and next steps on how to level up. And of course, enjoy this special episode of the I Am CEO Podcast.

For him now they actually become a catalyst for a complete mindset shift. Zachary really went deep in this conversation. He shared how he had been a three sport athlete in college, a baseball player, but after an injury he lost confidence, gained weight and started to feel like he had no direction. The moment when he saw a photo of himself became an ultimate turning point for Him. What did he do? He reached back out to his strength and conditioning coach, started following a meal plan and working, and began waking up 5am to train. In six to eight weeks he had lost the weight, but the bigger transformation was actually his confidence in his self awareness. And that's, that's the gold that builders should pay attention to. Here's something I'm going to say with you that might be somewhat, you know, controversial. Sometimes your business problem is not only a business problem. Sometimes it's a bottleneck, an energy, discipline, consistency, or the internal story we keep repeating to ourselves. Zachary talked about how they focus on the mind. The work that they do helps clients to go from thinking they can't do something to believing that they can. Whether that is stepping up on the stage for a bodybuilding show, showing up better in relationships, or performing at a higher level in business. This comes up in the human and operations pillars, largely because if the person leading the business is depleted, unclear or inconsistent, the business actually and eventually feels it. One of the hacks that came up was one of my absolute favorite hacks, which is the morning routine. He talked about meditation, cardio, gratitude, what he called calls the future, where he thinks about how he wants to interact with people, handle challenges or clients and feel five years from then. What I appreciate about it about this conversation, that he wasn't only visualizing outcomes, he was actually preparing his mindset for the way that he wanted to move through the day and then also talking about that intentionality in terms of, like, how you learn from others. And this nugget was such a huge one. You don't have to build alone. There are resources, including coaches, mentors, people can help you to grow faster. If you're willing to invest and stay open to that. Here's something you should ask yourself. Where are you trying to force business growth while neglecting the habits that would make you a stronger builder? Here's the. Here's the thing. Maybe, just maybe, the next level is not a new strategy. Sometimes it starts with personal accountability, awareness, and choosing the environment that helps you to become who you were called to be. You've had these feelings of being stuck, inconsistent, disconnected, on your own, from your own momentum. This is a perfect podcast that you want to listen to.
