It's great to be here today.

00:42 – Gresham Harkless

No problem, super excited to have you on. And before we jumped in, I want to read a little bit more about Christiana so you can hear about all the awesome things that she's doing. And Christiana is the owner of eCommerce education brand Wealthy College Kid, the face of the boss palace, Sleep World USA and Soul Ed Cosmetics and a few other brands you may see across social media alongside helping everyday people. Cristiana, it's great to have you on the show. Are you ready to speak to the I AM CEO community?

[restrict paid=”true”]

01:08 – Christianna Hurt

Of course.

01:10 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome, let's do it. So to kick everything off, I wanted to hear a little bit more on how you got started. Could you take us through what I call your CEO story and we'll let you get started with your business.

01:18 – Christianna Hurt

So I actually got started. Unfortunately, I signed a lease in a relationship that I could not afford with, you know, hoping that he would pay the rent. Now quickly I realized he wasn't going to pay the rent and I had about 30 days to find the rent money. So luckily for me, I dove into selling other people's products and I was able to make the rent money June 2nd. Now that left me back at dead broke. So I had to kind of shift gears and really find something that was going to make me enough money to get through this 12-month lease. So I dove into e commerce and then September of 2016, I actually ended up doing over 6 figures in revenue. Now what people don't know is like my profit was on that like maybe 20% because you know, it's difficult. It happened so quickly and I made so many mistakes and I didn't have a mentor.

So I ended up losing a lot of money. And then obviously, eventually getting evicted because he flooded the entire penthouse. So from there, you know, I separated myself and I really like focusing on myself, and I was able to not only get the eviction off, fix my credit, but also stably make 6 figures a month in revenue. To now in 2020, you know, 3, 4 years later, I've done stable 7 figure months with the Boss Palace, which has been a huge, huge blessing. Wealthy College Kid is now doing 7 figures annually and I'm trying to take it to 7 figures a month. But all in all, I feel like your last L really can take you to your first M.

02:41 -Gresham Harkless

I absolutely love that last L to your first M and I think so many times we forget the process that it takes to get to that step. And we want to kind of skip over those else. But a lot of times if we're able to reverse it, have a different mindset around it, that can allow us to catapult to great heights like you've been able to do.

02:57 – Christianna Hurt

Of course.

02:59 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So I know you touched a little bit on your brands. Could you take us through a little bit more about them and how exactly you serve the clients at each of those spots?

03:06 – Christianna Hurt

So Wealthy College is an e-commerce educational platform that allows people to enroll to earn. So it's initially courses that teach you how to earn income through buying and selling products online, which is e-commerce. Now, this could differentiate through platform, budget, product, and it allows people to really pick what works for their lifestyle and their goals. Not everybody is trying to quit their job and not everybody wants to be full-time online. Not everybody just wants $500 a day. So it caters to everybody's personal situation. Now, the Boss Pals is number 1, it's Google's number-ranked place to get wholesale vendors list.

Now, a lot of people go into the internet business and e-commerce as well as wanting to start their own products, but they don't want to shift through hundreds of thousands of different AliExpress and Alibaba vendors. So what the Boss Pals allows them to do is take a shortcut and get a wholesale vendors list to contact vendors to actually create their own product brand.

04:03 – Gresham Harkless

No, I absolutely love that.

04:04 – Christianna Hurt

And then our product-based, our product based brands that, you know, me and a partner and another partner actually all stand behind as a really, really solid team and we're all black. So all of these brands are black owned businesses, which I really am so, so proud of. And I think it's so important to tell people that is that we are all black working together. So they actually started launching Sleepwear, which is a sleepwear company, which also offers wholesale pricing for sleepwear and loungewear.

And then we have Sole Cosmetics where we have a large manufacturer actually made and created all of the products myself, of course, all organic, all natural, no animal cruelty, and things like that. Out of Miami, Florida, that is going to be launching this month as a subscription. So you'll be able to get not only your skincare but your haircare in 1 box on the third of every month, which is a different approach that so many people don't realize that you can put things that are gonna consistently run out on a subscription-based model and it'll do so well.

05:03 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, absolutely. No, I love that you've been able to kind of create each of these brands and I appreciate you, you know, making sure to emphasize, especially to this black own, because I think so many times hearing the success and hearing it from people a lot of times that look like you, it reminds us of our ability to do that, because I think so many times those narratives aren't being said.

05:21 – Christianna Hurt

Exactly, and that's why I try to show people, and I stress getting on live, and I really stress being accessible to so many people so that they can see a real living example and talk to an example because 9 times out of 10, it's really hard to envision yourself doing these types of numbers or even creating a business if you can't even talk to anybody doing it. And people always ask themselves, how do they change their circle? It's difficult to change your circle when you're just starting. And people, until you work hard and you have numbers, you know, people don't want to be in your circle because you're not like-minded. So I try to give people an opportunity to have access to me through Instagram live and through Facebook Live to be able to ask the questions and kind of surround themselves with a like-minded person that actually is where they want to be.

06:07 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, absolutely. And so many times, especially in this day and age, it's beautiful that you get that opportunity, as you mentioned, the Facebook Lives and Instagram Lives to get and have people, have the right people in your circle because this is a time where, because of technology, that's able to happen on a lot better level than we could probably in the past.

06:27 – Christianna Hurt

Exactly.

06:28 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome, awesome, awesome. So I wanted to ask you now for what I call your secret sauce. This could be for you or your brands or a combination of both, but what do you feel kind of sets you apart and makes you unique?

06:36 – Christianna Hurt

The fact that you have accessibility through live, honestly. I don't think there's any brand or entrepreneur out there that is so accessible to their students and to the people that follow them.

06:49 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome, awesome, awesome. And is that something that you wanted to do or you saw other brands that weren't doing it so you felt like that would catch your attention?

06:54 – Christianna Hurt

No, I've been doing it way before Instagram Live. I've been going live consistently, like 5 days a week for like 3 years now. So it's just something that helped me build up not only my confidence, but as well as get sales in the beginning when I didn't have money for traffic.

07:12 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, I absolutely love that. And I think especially in this day and age, getting the opportunity to kind of connect, not just know a brand or see a brand, but actually connect with that brand and connect with the people and the person behind that brand definitely creates a stronger, I think, foundation.

07:25 – Christianna Hurt

Exactly.

07:27 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So I wanted to switch gears a little bit and I wanted to ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be like an app, a book, or a habit that you have, but what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

07:38 – Christianna Hurt

Definitely, the Mint app helps me track my spending. I think that's a huge 1 that sets me apart is I just use the Mint app to track everything as well as using a team. Honestly, you know, having a great solid team behind you can make things so much easier. Instead of stressing yourself out trying to do everything, you can always have people help you.

08:00 -Gresham Harkless

Yeah, absolutely. And I think that when you understand that and understand that you can't do everything, you probably don't even wanna do everything, you allow yourself that opportunity to really, get those people around you. And I think sometimes too, we forget that we can do that also in technologies and in the Met app as you mentioned as well as 1 of those technologies that allow you to kind of take a step away so you don't have to literally track every single expense because the app itself does it for you.

08:26 – Christianna Hurt

Exactly. And you know when you have the opportunity to delegate you have the opportunity to execute more of your ideas, execute more of your dreams and get more done. So I feel like that's better because as ideas come we can let them fall, like they fall to the back burner because we don't have enough time to get them done. But when you're Delegating things that necessarily don't take up as much as your time. You can obviously achieve more and try more

08:52 – Gresham Harkless:

Yeah, absolutely allows us to be in our zone of genius and the thing that we do best Which is kind of sometimes being creative and coming up with these ideas But even you know, if you are kind of juggling so many different things, not only does it obviously take your time, but I think it also takes your energy as well too. So often when those opportunities come about or you see them, you can't execute them because you're kind of spent.

09:11 – Christianna Hurt:

Exactly.

09:14 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So now I wanted to ask you for what I call a CEO nugget. And this could be a word of wisdom or a piece of advice. It might be something you would tell a client or if you hopped into a time machine, you might tell your younger business self.

09:27 – Christianna Hurt

Focus on yourself. Stay away from relationships. They can really slow you down and deteriorate you from so much that you're trying to achieve, as well as never feel like you can't outlast somebody. Consistency is key and so many people give up. And a lot of times I feel like we don't believe in that and that's why people fail. They give up before the next person and that other person ends up outlasting them.

09:49 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, absolutely. I think if we change our perspective and understand that business and entrepreneurship, especially as a marathon, and we understand you're not going to step up to the plate, so to speak, and just hit a home run, it's gonna be continual, as you said, that having that consistency continues to swing and then you'll get a base hit, you'll get a double and so on and so forth. It starts to build upon that and then you start to reap that success you wanna have.

10:14 – Christianna Hurt

Exactly.

10:16 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So now I want to ask you my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. And we're hoping to have different quote-unquote CEOs on the show. So Christina, what does being a CEO mean to you?

10:26 – Christianna Hurt

It means being an example to others and just a light, you know, a gift array of hope. You know, Sometimes we have to see somebody doing it to believe that we can. And I believe in seeing the potential in people that they may not see in themselves.

10:41 – Gresham Harkless

Nice, I absolutely love that. And I think so many times we can kind of skip over our light, as you said, our gift or the thing that we do really best. But I love that you're able to kind of not only do that yourself, but see that in so many other people because so many times we forget that and being around that helps us to kind of see that within ourselves and understand that that's possible.

11:02 – Christianna Hurt

Exactly.

11:04 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Well, Christianna, I truly appreciate that, appreciate your time even more. What I wanted to do was pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional that you can let our readers and listeners know. And of course, how best they can get out of view, find out about your brands and all the awesome things that you're doing.

11:18 – Christianna Hurt

Just if you're trying to become, you know, a part of a really great experience in trying to earn an extra $500 or an extra $5,000 a month, just find me anywhere, a wealthy college kid on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. If you're trying to connect with me personally directly, my first and last name is Christiana Hurt and I always respond to my DMs. So if you ever have a question or you just want to change your circle or you're just trying to, you know, change your perspective and be around more like-minded people, the internet allows 1 another to do that so so easily and our reach is unimaginably far with this. So if you guys are looking to find me just hit me up on social media.

11:55 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. And to make it even easier we will have the links and information in the show notes just so that everybody can get a hold of you. But truly appreciate you, Christiana, and all the awesome things you're doing, and a reminder as well, too, of how small the world can be when we really leverage and use this technology to connect with people in different parts of the country, the world, and different states, and everything all around that. So, appreciate you again, and I hope you have a great rest of the day.
