IAM2778 – How Clarity Builds Impact and Credibility
Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

The Foundation of Credibility
Most builders assume that authority comes from having the strongest opinion, but trust is actually built by helping people make better decisions. In this episode, Kiana Brathwaite explains how empowering people with clear, unbiased information becomes the foundation for impact and credibility. In an era where consumers are more informed than ever, shifting the focus from telling people what to think to helping them understand their options is vital for any leader.
Education Over Persuasion
For founders working in the daily grind, there is often a strong urge to “convince” or “close” to prove they are the best solution. However, this pressure can actually erode trust, whereas clarity is what builds it. When your content and conversations prioritize education over persuasion, people lean in instead of pulling away. This approach ensures that when people feel informed and confident, they are more likely to take action and stick with it.
Engineering Long-Term Loyalty
The role of a CEO or founder isn't to make decisions for others, but to create enough clarity that they can make the right decisions for themselves. This creates a powerful connection to visibility and marketing; being a trusted guide allows you to move beyond being just a loud voice. By niching down and speaking directly to your target audience, you allow them to understand exactly why you are the solution to their problem without having to force the point.

Most builders want to be seen as experts. They want authority. They want people to trust their recommendations. But here's the thing. Trust doesn't come from having the strongest opinion. It comes from helping people make better decisions.
If you're building something meaningful, you're in the right place. This is the I Am CEO Podcast. I'm Greshen. For over a decade, I've had the honor and the privilege of learning directly from CEOs, entrepreneurs, and business owners just like you on How to Build. After recording more than 1,600 episodes, one thing has become clear: success isn't about following someone else's blueprint. And as I like to say on the show, if you run your own race, you can't lose. Even when we feel the journey should be a straight and linear path, what I've come to find out is success is a lot more like a plate of spaghetti. So in this special segment and episode, I'm starting to curate and share some CEO hacks and CEO nuggets that I've been dying to share, drawn from thousands of the episodes with phenomenal guests that have provided awesome value on the show, but also my 10 years of business experience as well too. These lessons are designed to strengthen the foundational principles that every business is built on and guided by a simple equation that we always go back to with our content: visibility plus resources times connections equals success. This is practical wisdom you can apply almost immediately. So be sure to check out the show notes for more resources and next steps on how to level up. And of course, enjoy this special episode of the I Am CEO Podcast.

Most builders want to be seen as experts. They want authority. They want people to trust their recommendations. But here's the thing, trust doesn't come from having the strongest opinion. It comes from helping people make better decisions. In this episode 13 of the I Am CEO Podcast, I spoke with Kiana Brathwaite and she shared how empowering people with clear, unbiased information becomes the foundation for impact and credibility, especially for her in the health space. What really came up for me during this conversation was the emphasis on education over persuasion. Instead of telling people what to think, the focus was on helping them understand their options. And especially in this day and age when the consumer and the customer is so well-informed over what they had been in the past, it's vital that you're able to do that because that distinction ultimately matters. When people feel informed, they feel confident. When people feel confident, they they're more likely to take action and actually stick with it. And for builders that are grinding, hustling, working in the business on an everyday basis, this shows up more than we actually realize. Think about it. We really want to convince, we want to close, we want to get people, we want people to get it quickly and understand exactly like where I'm coming from, why I'm the best solution. But we don't realize that pressure can actually erode trust. But clarity is actually what builds that. What really stands out here is that the role of the leader, the coach, the founder, the CEO isn't to make decisions for other people. In reality, what you want to make sure that you do is you create enough clarity that people can actually make the right decisions for themselves. This approach actually creates loyalty, it creates advocacy, and it creates a long-term relationship. Just think about it. Rather than trying to force and show why I'm the best because of A, B, C, and X, Y, and Z, you make it plain that people can understand why you're the best decision. This connects quietly to how builders think about visibility and authority. It's actually work that's done before you have the conversations. It's something that you know inherently about your business and what you're doing, and you're able to communicate that in marketing and sales and so many other aspects. When your content educates instead of persuades, people lean in instead of pulling away. It's a very subtle, but it's a powerful connection with our visibility and marketing pillar. Because being known as a trusted guide allows you to not be just a loud voice. Something that you can consider when you're thinking about this in your business. Ask yourself, where am I trying to convince people instead of helping them clearly understand their options? This question often reveals why trust feels harder to earn than it should be. It also is a very strong component to why people say you should niche down. If you're able to niche down, you're able to speak directly to your target audience. If you're able to speak directly to your target audience, they feel and understand why you're the solution to their problem. In this episode, we went deeper into decision-making, education, how empowering others creates influence that lasts as well. But if you care anything about trust-based authority and helping people move forward with confidence, this conversation is definitely going to be for you because it offers perspective that's well worth exploring deeper and further.
