Hello, this is Gresh from the I AM CEO podcast. I have a very special guest on the show today. I have Jacqueline Rodriguez of the Clean Beauty Biz Coach. Jacqueline, it's great to have you on the show.

01:04 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Hi. Thank you so much for having me. I'm really excited to be here.

01:08 – Gresham Harkless

Yes, I'm excited as well, too, to hear about all the awesome things that you're working on. You've been doing. So, of course, before we jump into having a great conversation, I want to read a little bit more about Jacqueline so you can hear about some of those awesome things. Jacqueline is a holistic salon owner, founder of the Clean Beauty Biz Method, certified master neuro coach, and energy healer. Her mission is to break industry norms to educate and empower beauty professionals to create profitable and impactful businesses. Jacqueline, again, excited to have you on the show. Are you ready to speak to the I AM CEO community?

[restrict paid=”true”]

01:39 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Yes, I am super excited.

01:41 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Well, let's get it started then. So to kind of kick everything off, I wanted to just rewind the clock a little bit here, a little bit more on how you got started, what I call your CEO story.

01:51 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

So really, it goes all the way back to when I was younger. I am an entrepreneur at heart. Like, it fuels everything about me, and I love that part of everything that I get to do. Fast forwarding through all of this stuff. I also am a cosmetologist. I've been in the beauty industry for 23 years. Oh, my gosh, so long. Being in the industry, I love it. I love what we get to do and the personalization that we really get to make as leaders, because every cosmetologist is a leader behind the chair.

We have clients who sit down and they trust in us and they divulge a lot of information because of that trust and the change and the transformation we get to make this pretty instant was always my love. So going in and speaking with my clients and taking that time to have relationships was always very important to me. I noticed when I had kids that I started to change things in my life and I became more nontoxic and really liked looking at how was I being for my kids and what things were around the house for them.

I transformed everything in my house into a really clean, nontoxic. Really started thinking about sustainability and all of those pieces. But then I would walk into this really toxic environment because as cosmetologists, we're working with chemicals all the time. If you're a cosmetologist all the also the toxic environments, like being just not working well with others, like we just, there's this whole thing. So walking into my salon every day, really feeling this disconnect, and also because of the toxic products and the chemicals, I actually noticed slight headaches and not feeling really well.

That's when I really started to see like, okay, what do I get to since I own the business, like I get to make changes. I dove really deep into transforming my salon into a nontoxic sustainable business. At that time there was nobody there to guide me. Nobody was changing the businesses. You could change stuff at home, but as far as the business, not so much. Especially in cosmetology where those chemicals, like, man, we're so indoctrinated to believe that this is what we can do.

So being able to be the leader in my business and allowing my passions and what I stand for show through is really how I have progressed in my business and how I've built an amazing salon that people drive over an hour to come and see us because of what we do. I noticed that it was something that I needed to support other beauty professionals in creating that was profitable but impactful because we are the leaders. We get to show people which way to go. So that was a long, drawn out yeah.

05:34 – Gresham Harkless

But I absolutely love it and I appreciate you sharing it so much because the word that was kind of coming to my mind was silos. Many times in our life we can look at things in silos. I love how you had that change as a mother and being able to say, hey, I want to make this change, these changes at home, and then realizing.

I think sometimes we forget that when we have this workplace that might be toxic for the chemicals as you mentioned, or even just the environment as a whole that can overlap and vice versa. So it's so important. I love the words that I use when I introduce you. Holistic. To really look at things holistically, to realize that one can help support, or sometimes not support as much if it's not in the right place, the other.

06:13 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Yeah, for sure. That's the thing I noticed as an entrepreneur, and I notice other entrepreneurs work this way. Work is here, and we work and this is what we do at work. Then we come home and we're these whole other people, and they don't always connect. A lot of people I notice say, like, I want to find balance and balance this. Balance isn't really a thing. Like you. We have ebbs and flows. When you are aligned in your business with the passions and the values that you have as a human being, all of a sudden that balance is right.

Because, yeah, I have times that I work really hard in my business, and then I have other times that I'm at home more and I spend time with my family or focus on me. It's what people say is balance, but really it's just this ebb and flow because everything is intertwined and aligned with who I am. There are not two separate people anymore. It's just. Do you get me?

07:24 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, absolutely. So I wanted to drill down a little bit more here, how you were able to blaze that trail. Can you take us through a little bit more on how you work with clients, and how you make that impact and create that trust and connection in relationships?

07:38 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Yes. So the biggest thing is relationships. I love connecting with people and genuinely connecting with them, like finding out what problems are coming up. I took my own problems and then put them into my business. I had a whole lot of things that worked and a whole lot of things that didn't work. So taking that and writing it down, seeing what I went through and getting out of my own way of thinking that I didn't have enough to share or anything like that, and just started putting it out there, creating those relationships in true heart form of just wanting to support people.

I took what worked for me and I put it together in a package to start supporting other entrepreneurs on that journey. I didn't do it all alone. , even though I didn't have a specific business coach showing me the ropes of this, I had to create my own way of that. I had guides and mentors all over the place and that was the beautiful thing I saw in other businesses.

08:58 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, it's extremely powerful. I almost wonder if that's true. Is that part of your secret sauce? The thing you feel sets you apart is that you have been able to get all of this information and knowledge. A lot of times when you have that methodology or you have this path or this is how I succeed, you can always push that on to people. But you seem to have the ability to meet people where they are, to understand, to listen, and to guide them to where they can harness their super. Their secret sauces, their superpowers to get to where they want to be. Do you feel like that's part of, like, your secret sauce?

09:29 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Most definitely. Because I see this beautiful soul inside of everybody that they get to shine. It was something that I really had to work on myself. Like, I grew up in the thought process that, like, okay, you kind of do it like everybody else, and you don't want to rock the boat. If you rock the boat, then people look at you differently or they're not going to take you seriously. I just. I mean, that is definitely one of the subconscious thoughts that I had to break on my own. Now that I see that I get to be me like this, what you see here today is 100% me. I am fiery, I'm passionate. I don't always get everything right. I'm dyslexic.

If I'm, like, trying to spell something out for you, like, so, sorry, but this is just what you get. I've connected with people on a whole new level because I got to be me, and I got to just stand for what I believe in. I attracted clients who absolutely just were waiting. Like, they were waiting for someone like me because I connected with them. Everyone out there that's listening, somebody is waiting for you and your secret sauce. You just get to dive into that and own it. Love who you are and love what you get to be in the industry that you're in.

11:01 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah. that's so powerful. I love just thinking about, like, if you stepping into who you are, if you're running your race, you're staying true to yourself. People are waiting for you. They need what it is that makes you who you are. I wanted to switch gears a little bit, and I want to ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be like an app, a book, or a habit that you have, but what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

11:24 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Getting quiet with yourself, like I talked about, we're so inundated with what we should do not do, be, listen to, read all of that stop, and ask ourselves, what do you want? So many times, and this was me. I am a true entrepreneur. My mind goes 1,000 miles an hour. I could not quiet my brain down enough to even ask myself a question of, like, what do I actually really want? So taking that time, whether it is meditation, whether it is walking and just having some quiet time for yourself, or maybe something like listening to a certain type of music gets you in that whatever it is or looks like to you, let it be.

But get quiet with yourself and ask yourself, what is it you want not only for your business but for your entire life? Like, do you just want to work 100 hours a week? Like, does that actually light you up? Or do you want to be able to take vacations and what does that look like? Then what is the impact that you want to have on your business? Because when we go into business, entrepreneurs who aren't just going into it for money, we actually care about something. So what do you want that to represent when you're coming into your business? What do you want to showcase just get quiet with your thoughts and let it look like however it looks like to you.

13:05 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, I absolutely love that. Would you consider that to be what I like to call a CEO nugget? A little bit more word of wisdom or piece of advice, but I usually say it might be something you would tell your younger business self if you were to hop into a Time Machine or potentially your favorite client.

13:18 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Yes. Trust yourself and take action quickly.

13:23 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah. Don't think about it. I just kind of go into it. I think that's so powerful and freeing, I think.

13:28 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Yeah, for sure. It's such a powerful thing to be able to take that action, too. To be human about it, because we are not robots. You're not meant to be. Before I could, something would happen. I would have a failure. I would carry that failure for a month or two months and just go over it and over it and, like, just dwell in it. Now I just take that and I have an hour or two or a day.

I mean depending on how big I feel, like I messed up, it might be a week. But there's no longer this, like, monthly, yearly. We know people who have been in these ruts for a year or two years and can't seem to get out of it. It's because we're not allowing it to just let go and be human and then take action quickly and pivot. Failures are going to happen. It doesn't mean anything at all about you.

14:32 – Gresham Harkless

Failure is definitely not final unless you decide that you stop. That's when it becomes that. But if you continue to move on, and take that quick action, then ultimately it'll just be a kind of blip and something that you can ultimately learn from. So now I want to ask you my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. We're hoping now different CEOs on the show. So Jacqueline, what does being a CEO mean to you?

14:55 – Jacquelyn Rodriguez

Being a leader and creating impact in everything that you're doing. Because everything you do will impact someone. So you get to choose who that someone is and how big that impact is. In every business I've ever been a part of, I really lean in on the impact. It has to be profitable too, right? That's what we get to do. But that's why I teach creating businesses that are profitable and impactful because the impact is where we're going to lead generations to come and that's huge.

15:31 – Gresham Harkless

Well, Jacqueline, truly appreciate that definition. Of course, I appreciate your time even more. So what I want you to do now is pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional that you can let our readers and listeners know and of course, how best people can get a review, and find out about all the awesome things that you're working on.
