IAM1901 – CEO Helps Clients Design and Build their Houses

Podcast Interview with Gregg Cantor

Why it was selected for “CBNation Architects”:

In this episode of IAMCEO podcast, Gregg Cantor, President and CEO of Murray Lampert Design, Build, Remodel, shares his journey in the home remodeling and construction industry. Gregg started working for his grandfather’s construction business in 1977. He climbed the company's ranks, and in 1990, he bought the business and took over as the President/CEO. Gregg has managed over 2,000 home remodeling and construction projects and frequently educates consumers on architecture, interior design, home improvement, and construction through media appearances.

Here are some key takeaways from the podcast:

CEO Story: Gregg’s mechanically inclined nature led him to work part-time for his grandfather’s construction business and gain experience until he could handle projects independently.

Business Service: Murray Lampert is an architecture and interior design firm specializing in remodeling.

Secret Sauce: The company's success can be attributed to its culture and people. Gregg believes in building a diverse team to strengthen the organization.

CEO Hack: Gregg recommends reading “Traction” for implementing business strategies and “Good to Great” for organizational analysis.

CEO Nugget: In marketing and website development, he advises showcasing personality and using writing with a non-salesy tone to build trust. Additionally, Gregg emphasizes humility and continuous learning.

CEO Defined: For Gregg, being a CEO is a rewarding experience that allows him to be involved in the community and provide employment opportunities, even during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gregg Cantor Teaser 00:00

You always have to remain humble. Never think that you have it figured out 100%. Always be digging and learning and trying to figure out, even if a customer says you did great, find out what you could do better.

Intro 00:15

Do you want to learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales, and grow your business from successful entrepreneurs, startups, and CEOs without listening to a long, long, long interview?

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresham Harkness values your time and is ready to share with you precisely the information you're in search of.

This is the IAMCEO podcast.

Gresham Harkless 00:42

Hello. Hello. Hello. This is Gresham from the IAMCEO podcast and I appreciate you listening to this episode. If you've been listening this year, you know that we hit 1600 episodes at the beginning of this year, and we're doing something a little bit different where we're repurposing our favorite episodes around certain categories, topics, or as I like to call them, the business pillars that we think are going to be extremely impactful for CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, and what I like to call the CB Nation architects who are looking to level up their organizations.

This month, we are focusing on operations. The systems will set you free. So think about systems, think about flow, sustainability, potentially working out in your morning routine, waking up early, e-commerce, different business models. Think of the operations in the models that basically set up the foundation to allow the creativity within organizations, but also to make sure the trains are running on time and things are going as they should.

Now, this is extremely important because we often can turn to the sexy parts of business and forget about the operations and how important that is. So I really want to focus this month on this specific topic. So sit back and enjoy this special episode at the IAMCEO podcast.

Gregg began working for Murray Lampert Design, Build, Remodel in 1977, learning all aspects of home from the ground up and around. From 1983 until 1989 Gregg worked for the company as a project manager and eventually grew into the role of head of production. In 1990, when Gregg's grandfather, Murray Lampert, retired, he bought the business and took over as president and CEO, running all day-to-day operations. And over the years, Gregg has been responsible for managing the design-build of over 2000 home remodeling and construction projects, including landscape pools, outdoor living and many, many more.
