[restrict paid=”true”]

Madison Surdyke 1:21

I am ready.

Gresham Harkless 1:22

Awesome. Let's do it. So the first question I had was to hear a little bit more about what I call your CEO story and what led you to start your business.

Madison Surdyke 1:30

Yeah, so I'll try to give you the short version, the SparkNotes version. Basically, to rewind, it all comes back to starting in high school, I had an eating disorder in high school and basically recovered by the time college came around, I had a ton of fun in college, and things seemed to be going well. I didn't really feel like or believe I had any disordered eating habits or behaviors anymore. And it wasn't until I found the book intuitive eating.

Soon after college I realized, I'm still spending so much time and energy, stressing about food, stressing about my body, not eating this eating that, consuming every nutrition advice I could get my hands on and it was just too much. And I didn't realize that I was still having all of those obsessive thoughts that were making me feel pretty terrible until I read that book.

And I immediately latched on to the idea. I was like, You're telling me that I can just listen to my body. And I don't have any crazy rules or eat this, don't eat this, do this, don't do this. And I will be happy, healthy, and free. Like yes, sign me up for that. So I immediately latched on to that concept and went on my own kind of personal healing journey of making peace with food, and my body. And also around that time I had for a couple of years wanted to start a food and recipe book because I love cooking and creativity and things like that. And I just never could quite pinpoint exactly what I wanted my message to be.

So I never really got it off the ground until I discovered intuitive eating and started having a major personal growth transformational journey. And I was like, this is it, this is what I want to teach, which also gave me even more motivation on my healing journey,

So that's when I started out really just as a food and recipe blog, and I've got ended up getting certified as a health coach. And now I do one on one coaching and have an online course. So that's kind of the evolution of my story and why I started my business and I want to be able to teach women all of the tools and skills and lessons that I learned on my personal healing journey and help them implement those tools and strategies in their life so that they can find freedom and happiness and fulfillment in their life like I've been able to.

Gresham Harkless 4:11

Yeah, I definitely appreciate you for sharing your story because I know that there are definitely a lot of people that are going through difficult times and they're probably not sure exactly where to turn to or what to look to, to even help them out or even understand if something might not be as it should be. But it's great to hear you, sorry, obviously, you went through everything but it's great to hear that you have been able to heal yourself and provide to meet that freedom that you were seeking, but also you're helping out so many others in order to do that.

Madison Surdyke 4:41

Yeah, and it's allowed me to see it as a gift. Without that experience. I wouldn't have had all of this, personal growth, and transformation, and without that experience, I wouldn't be having the experience and the knowledge to help other people so I definitely see it as a good thing as the hardest it was it all, turned out for the best?

Gresham Harkless 5:03

Yeah, absolutely. And I know that a lot of people, don't feel alone as well because you've been able to heal yourself. And they can see the light at the end of the tunnel as well, too sometimes when you're going through difficult times you need that around you in order to do that.

Madison Surdyke 5:17

Yeah, for sure it's especially in this area. Because we're women and men to struggle with this. I just work primarily with women. But we have a really hard time opening up and talking about this stuff and telling people Yes, I'm thinking about food and my body all the time, I feel like I'm going crazy. Like, nobody wants to talk about that. And that's something I'm really proud of is trying to hold a safe space for people to be able to talk about this evidence like you're not alone, we are literally all going through this. I feel like everyone in the world struggles with how they feel about food in their body to some extent at some point in their life.

So hopefully, bringing awareness to this kind of takes away that stigma and shame and it's like this, we're all experiencing this, let's help each other let's get through this together.

Gresham Harkless 6:05

Yeah, absolutely. And even recognizing the fact that sometimes you may not even notice things that are not as positive for your body or positive for your overall health. And well-being but being able to notice those things and understand how best you can combat those and understand you're not alone. So I appreciate you for that. And I know you touched on it a little bit, but was there anything additional I like about how you serve the clients that you work with, and kind of what you feel is your secret sauce?

Madison Surdyke 6:35

Yeah, so as I was saying, I do one on one coaching and have an online course. And the main goal with those is to give people the tools and confidence, they need to have a super healthy, loving, free, gentle, whatever relationship they want with themselves, and to transform their limiting beliefs that are holding them back. And to help them get really clear on what they want so that they can start creating their dream life. And a lot of times we work on healing their relationships with food in their body first. But really, this is just kind of the gateway to a free and happy life. Because once you're no longer thinking about food in your body all the time, then you have the time, money, energy, and mental space, to put into the things that really matter to you.

So those are the programs that I have right now. But in terms of my secret sauce, I feel like the world we live in today, everywhere you go, everyone is telling you to do this, don't do that. Eat this, don't eat this look this way, don't look that way, and it's so overwhelming.

And it's how the hell do we know who to trust? How do we know what's healthy? How do we know what's best for us when there's so much conflicting advice about that out there? So my approach is really different because I'm not here to tell people what to do or what's best for them. Instead, what I try to do is guide them to discover what they know, inside themselves is best for them, helping them tap into their intuition.

And like you said, in the intro, the wisdom of their mind, body, and soul, and really learning to honor and integrate all parts of ourselves. So we can feel like we're whole again. And when we're doing, whatever else is telling us that we should do that's when you start feeling out of alignment with our true selves.

So I always ask people, who would you be without your shoulds, we were always looking for these answers outside of ourselves. And it completely blocks us from being able to listen to our own intuition. And I just believe that we really do have everything within us that we need to feel completely free, whether that's around food, your body, and your relationships in all areas of your life. So I'm all about honoring what feels true and right for you, and just letting go of what you think you should do or what others are telling you to do. So basically, I'm not telling people what to do, I'm just helping them tap into what they internally already know is best for them. I'm just helping them access that.

Gresham Harkless 9:13

Nice. I absolutely love that. And I love the question asked who would you be with after should because a lot of times there's so many external influences, whether it be like you touched on from, you should be eating this or eating that but even just from you should go down this path as far as your career, it could be your life, it could be married, ever. There's always a reason for you to do X, Y, and Z but I love that you're tapping into the reality which a lot of us don't always realize is that you sometimes are your best doctor, you know what that secret voice says inside exactly what you should be doing or I don't know if I should or should not. So I wanted to switch gears a little bit and ask you for what I call a CEO hack. And this might be an app book or habit that you have Something that makes you more effective and efficient.

Madison Surdyke 10:01

My favorite Business Resource ever is James Wedmore's Podcast, it's called the Mind your business Podcast. And I just love his approach to business. Basically, his approach is you can implement X Y & Z strategy and have the best funnel and all the marketing but the ultimate thing is what are your beliefs? What do you believe about yourself? What do you think success means to you? What do you make success mean about you? What do you make failure mean about you? And it's really more about the mindset and self-development piece behind being an entrepreneur because I've realized that it feels to me, that's just my opinion.

And probably James would agree that it's more about being in alignment with your authentic self and honoring your intuition and living from the inside out and working on your mindset more so than it is then like hustling, grinding, and efforting your way to what you think is a success. Because when you do it that way, and you're working 16 hours a day, and your mindset is not right, your energy is just going to be terrible. And you're not going to attract the kind of people you want to work with, or you're just not going to attract people you want to work with. So his podcast is all about approaching business from that, like woo-woo, if you want to call it standpoint, and really looking at it from a mindset perspective, rather than from an efforting and action, and hustle perspective.

Gresham Harkless 11:52

Appreciate that CEO hack. And now I want to ask you for what I call a CEO nugget. And this is a word of wisdom or piece of advice. Or if you can happen to be a time machine, what would you tell your younger business self?

Madison Surdyke 12:02

Okay, so I think I want to share it here. So the first one is, ask yourself, How can you embody the future version of you now the version of you that has that success that you want to have? So like, do you want to feel the way you want to feel? What is that version of you Who has everything that she or he wants? What is that version of you think, what do they feel? What are they saying? What are they doing? What do they believe? And how can you do and believe those things right now because when we start to embody that version of assassin we attract the things that are going to bring us closer to our visions and goals and dreams.

And so when instead if we think what once I do this, then I will be happier, then I will never really work like that. So for me, it's all about thinking, well what would future Madison do? And how can I embody that right now? So that's one piece, I'm always asking myself that question.

Gresham Harkless 13:02

Absolutely. And I love both of those CEO nuggets, everything. It's all about beginning within the mind. And definitely which is being consistent is being in alignment with yourself and making sure that you are not trying to do and overwhelm yourself, which is definitely something I struggle with myself. So thank you for reminding me of that as well. So now I want to ask you my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. And we're hoping to have different quote unquote, CEOs on the show. So Madison, what does being a CEO mean to you?

Madison Surdyke 13:31

Yeah, this is such a big question. But I feel like it's important to ask ourselves, what it means to us because again, it can be different for everyone. But I feel like for me, being a CEO is about having the freedom and integrity to create my own vision of success. And really feeling in alignment with my authentic purpose and living from the inside out. And knowing that the more I follow my heart in my intuition, the more of an impact I can have. And that's what it really comes down to for me knowing that I'm serving from my highest good for the greatest good. And there's really nothing more fulfilling than changing someone's life, doing what you love, and doing what lights you up every single day.

And I feel like, not only does that bring you that feeling of lighting up your soul and feeling on fire every day. But the more you can have that for yourself, the more you give off that energy and also show other people that they can have that exact same feeling as well.

Gresham Harkless 14:31

Absolutely, yeah. And I appreciate that definition. I love that because it's insight-driven. So it's definitely something that everyone can define for themselves. You just have to make sure they tap into it and listen to it as well. So, Madison, I appreciate your time and I appreciate all the awesome things that you're doing. What I wanted to do was pass you the mic so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional to let our readers and listeners know and then of course how best I can get a hold of you.

Madison Surdyke 14:55

Sure. So the last thing I like to leave people is one of my favorite affirmations that I have adopted from Catherine. She runs the Manifestation Babe business. But basically, she says, My success is inevitable and I'm always on the right path. And I just love that affirmation and you can make it about anything. You could say my healing is inevitable. And I'm always on the right path, or whatever it is you want to call yourself. It's inevitable, and you're always on the right path. And yeah, so that'd be the last thing I want to leave your audience with.

Gresham Harkless 15:30

But basically she says, My success is inevitable and I'm always on the right path. And I just love that affirmation and you can make it about anything. You could say my healing is inevitable. And I'm always on the right path, or whatever it is you want to call yourself. It's inevitable, and you're always on the right path. And yeah, so that'd be the last thing I want to leave your audience with.
