IAM2835 – Why Life Stories Create Engagement, Opportunity, and a Deeper Connection
Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

The Limitations of Logic
Many builders focus strictly on the “what”—their services, their offers, and their case studies. While checking off boxes and accomplishing goals is important, people don't connect with services; they connect with stories. In this episode, we revisit a conversation with Emmy Award-winning producer Anna, exploring how understanding someone from a humanistic standpoint is where true business momentum begins.
Resonance Over Information
There is a critical distinction in communication: facts inform, but stories resonate. For builders working in their business every day, shifting from explaining what you do to showing why it matters changes everything.
Storytelling builds trust faster than explanation because it allows the audience to connect with your journey and your message on a deeper level.
Engineering Raving Fans
Within the Visibility Marketing Pillar, the goal is often to turn clients into raving fans who are fully devoted to your mission. To achieve this, you must connect with their hearts and minds, ensuring your vision is fully aligned with theirs. The core takeaway for any CEO is that narrative drives visibility and creates deeper opportunities. Ask yourself: “Am I sharing what I do and why it matters through real stories?”. That shift is what takes your connection to another level.

Many builders focus on what they do, their service, their offer, their results. They did this. They have this case study, you know they've accomplished this thing, or, you know, they've been able to, to check off that box. But people don't connect with services. They actually connect with stories. It's one of the reasons on this podcast I've tried to make it a point to be able to start out with a story. Because once you understand somebody from a humanistic standpoint, you get the opportunity to kind of connect with them. And that's where everything takes off.
If you're building something meaningful, you're in the right place. This is the I Am CEO podcast. I'm gresh. And for over a decade, I've had the honor and the privilege of Learning directly from CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners just like you on how to build. After recording more than 1600 episodes, one thing has become clear. Success isn't about following someone else's blueprint. And as I like to say on the show, if you run your own race, you can't lose, even when you feel the journey should be a straight and linear path. What I've come to find out is success is a lot more like a plate of spaghetti. So in this special segment and episode, I'm starting to curate and share some CEO hacks and CEO nuggets that I've been dying to share. Drawn from thousands of episodes with phenomenal guests that have provided awesome value on the show, but also my 10 years of business experience as well, too. These lessons are designed to strengthen the foundational principles that every business is built on and guided by a simple equation that we always go back to with our content. Visibility plus resources times connections equals success. This is practical wisdom you can apply almost immediately. So be sure to check out the show notes for more resources and next steps on how to level up. And of course, enjoy this special episode of the I Am CEO Podcast.

Many builders focus on what they do, their service, their offer, their results. They did this. They have this case study. You know, they've accomplished this thing, or, you know, they've been able to to check off that box. But people don't connect with services. They actually connect with stories. It's one of the reasons on this podcast I've tried to make it a point to be able to start out with a story, because once you understand somebody from a humanistic standpoint, you get the opportunity to kind of connect with them. And that's where. Where everything takes off. In episode number 47, I spoke with Anna, who is An Emmy award winning producer helping clients share their stories publicly. What really stood out and came up was that storytelling creates connection and opportunity. Facts inform. Stories resonate. For builders working in their business every single day, this changes how you communicate. Instead of just explaining what you do, you show why it matters. And here's the real takeaway. Storytelling builds trust faster than explanation. When people understand and hear and can resonate and connect with your journey, they connect with your message and they connect with you on a deeper level. Where does this show up the visibility marketing pillar? A lot of times we're hoping to have people not just become clients and customers, but become Raven fans. Become people that are fully devoted to our mission, vision and what we want to do. But in order to do that, you have to connect with not just their ears, but their hearts, their minds, their souls, and exactly who they are, what they want to do, and have them be behind supporting you in your mission and your vision, not because it's separate, but because it's fully aligned to their overall mission. That's where you go to another level. So here's a question that you should be asking yourself. Am I sharing what I do and why it matters through real stories? This shift creates engagement and creates opportunity, creates deeper connection. Absolutely. Phenomenal conversation I had with Anna. We talked around storytelling, media, and how narrative actually drives that visibility. And for somebody that has been able to win an Emmy, you know it's going to be a valuable conversation.
