Hello, this is Gresh from the I AM CEO podcast and I have a very special guest on the show today. I have Juily Wagle of MetaboliX. Juily, it's awesome to have you on the show.

Juily Wagle 0:38

Hey, hello, everyone.

Gresham Harkless 0:40

Awesome to have you Juily and what I want to do is just read a little bit more about her so you can hear about all the awesome things that she's doing. Juily Wagle, a fitness and wellness coach is the founder of MetaboliX a diet and fitness consulting firm. A Finance graduate who had a successful corporate career had to quit her job after she became a mother to twins. Gaining immense weight led her to depression which made her take up fitness and holistic wellness seriously. Today through MetaboliX she is teaching people to live a healthy life. Juily, are you ready to speak to the I AM CEO community?

[restrict paid=”true”]

Juily Wagle 1:09

Absolutely, I'm ready to go.

Gresham Harkless 1:11

Awesome, let's make it happen. I wanted to kick everything off and hear a little bit more about what I call your CEO story and what led you to kind of start a business.

Juily Wagle 1:19

You gave a good introduction about me, I feel that everybody wants to become fit today. However, people don't know how to become fit, or perhaps they have the wrong ideas about how to go about it. And I have been there, I tried tonnes of things. Nothing seemed to work in a sustainable manner. We're all human beings, nobody's perfect. In spite of all those things, one can truly become fit, given the time and the resources that they have to spare. For that activity. I mean, all of us have a family or a career or studies and we cannot just pursue fitness 24 hours a day. But depending upon the resources that one has at hand, namely, time and money, one can decide the level of fitness that one wants to achieve.

Everybody doesn't want to be a bikini competitor or a bodybuilder. Some people just want a general amount of level of fitness in their lives. I just want to show my company, educate people that it's possible for them, and tell them the right way to do it. Yeah, there are many ways to do it but the most sustainable way, according to me, is the right way because you don't want to become healthy and then become unhealthy again, or gain the fat back, or have other blood parameters, which go out of whack and stuff like that. I believe that there is a knowledge gap around us, people are doing different things, but they're not necessarily the right things for them. There is a business opportunity. But I also feel that I make a difference in the lives of my clients, by making health accessible to them, seeing them then enjoy the results of their efforts.

Gresham Harkless 3:13

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. I appreciate you for sharing that. I think just like you said sometimes we just assume that people know like, what it is to be healthy, or how to take care of their health, or their fitness goals. But a lot of times, just as you said, sometimes we have to learn those things. I imagined too, that we probably have to learn it in relation to who we are what our life is like, and whether or not we have to eat on the go, or we have to, have 30 minutes to work out or like you said a full day to kind of commit to it. A lot of those different factors kind of determine how healthy we can be and the things that we can do.

Juily Wagle 3:46

Absolutely.

Gresham Harkless 3:48

Nice. I know you touched on it a little bit, but I want to hear a little bit more about MetaboliX. Can you take us through exactly what clients you're working with and how exactly that process goes?

Juily Wagle 3:58

MetaboliX is a wellness company. Specifically, right now we do fitness, training, consultations, as well as nutrition consultations. I believe that there is no diet that is one size fits all, all of us are unique with unique genetics, we have unique biological processes, our metabolisms are different and this needs to be taken into consideration other than that our temperaments are different. Our willpower, the level of willpower, that we have our determination, all of us are not as determined as perhaps you would need to be to see a very, very big change within one or two months. Then for those clients, you need to kind of have different programs.

Customization, I feel to the lifestyle. Let's say somebody's a mother and she's not able to leave her house and go to a gym to work out then she needs to be able to do something at home with her baby right next to her. I try to customize my solutions as required by the client's lifestyle and needs. Because that's what makes it sustainable. That's what will make it last. I try to make it into a lifestyle. I try and MetaboliX is not overly restrictive so it's not that. In India, we have a festival every other week, and people are in sweets, and a lot of things, which perhaps can be very restrictive.

If I keep telling people, okay, you can't eat this, you can't have that you can't do this, you can't do that. I try to teach hacks or ways in which, there is damage control, when you kind of drift away from the plan and stuff like that. MetaboliX really is in short, it would be giving you fitness and health in a very customized way, designed to suit your lifestyle, to ensure that it is sustainable. It's not just a one-month or a three-month program, it really changes how people perceive nutrition and food and how they perceive fitness in their lives.

Gresham Harkless 6:08

Yeah, absolutely. I definitely appreciate that. I know you touched on that in the beginning as well, too, is that a lot of times people will go through and have different diets and workout plans, and they lose a lot of weight, and then they'll gain it right back. I appreciate that you take into account how we have different lifestyles, we have different schedules, and of course, the festivals that we want to enjoy as well, too. So just having that opportunity to be able to fit that into your lifestyle and not have it to be something that is so hard to do that you might do it for a couple of weeks, I might do it for a month, but you're not going to continue to do it. So I appreciate those lifestyles, that lifestyle focus.

Juily Wagle 6:44

Yeah, in fact, that's what got me started into the whole thing. It was my personal experience that I would follow something I would probably join a new gym or have a certain fit, and lifestyle, and then I would see results. Then I would kind of slide back whatever, something or the other took over like Office travel or some stress here. We are sometimes just plain lazy, I mean, that's also a thing, we sometimes are so tired that we don't really want to go and step into the gym to work out. All these things really got me thinking as to why can't there be a sustainable solution. I think that is what is really missing. When people follow something for their health, they do a Keto plan for three months, they lose weight, and then start eating carbohydrates. They will kind of be against the slide.

These things really matter, I feel it is that demotivates people, once you gain all the weight back that you have lost through so much so many effort. You feel out of control, there is a psychological aspect to it. Like a lot of people say Oh, whatever I do, I just can't lose weight, or I just can't be healthy. I just don't have it in me. A lot of my clients came to me with this attitude or this mindset and sometimes it's hard, right? I mean, if somebody just doesn't have the time to work out, how am I going, like they have a job, and then they have a kid and then they go to cook? How am I going to try to convince them as to, okay, you got to at least take half an auto, some woman, and stuff like that? There are different challenges and what I try to do is help them figure a way out, something is better than nothing.

Gresham Harkless 8:29

Yeah, I definitely appreciate that. I think you're absolutely right. A lot of times when you see, you know, some of those diets or those workout plans, they're so restrictive, and they're not sometimes realistic depending on somebody's lifestyle, as you said, so I appreciate you for being able to do that. Would you consider that to be like your secret sauce? What you feel kind of makes you unique is that customization piece and being able to fit around and talk with a person and develop a schedule for them.

Juily Wagle 8:53

Absolutely. Without customization in something like this, like I would say there are a lot of motivated people who will do whatever it takes to be fit. That's great. They don't need my help really to reach their health and fitness goals. The majority of people first of all are clueless about what to do when it comes to being healthy. Then once they know what to do, how to do it. Right? How do I hit my protein macros? How do I do this? I eat out and stuff like that. I pretty much give them the plan. Then I have them execute the plan. I think that is lacking in a lot of plans which are available in the market today. The plans are there. I mean, if you google you will probably find some of the other diet plans. But how you execute that and get that into your lifestyle and your day-to-day life, is how you will see the results.

Gresham Harkless 9:49

Absolutely. I'm glad you touched on that in that mindset piece as well too. Because sometimes it's not as not just executing the actual workout plan that is not doing the nutrition plan. It's a lot of the mindset work that also needs to be done as well, too. I definitely appreciate you for focusing on that. I wanted to switch gears a little bit and I want to ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be an app, book, or habit that you have. But what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

Juily Wagle 10:13

Humility, in the sense that I don't know everything. That leads me to a very research and evidence-based mindset, especially because I feel that nutrition, and what my offering is, is highly scientific in nature. It has underpinnings of science in it. All patients or other clients don't respond the same way to the same protocols. I need to tweak it all the time. I need to take a very research-oriented, evidence-based, nonjudgmental, based on factual underpinnings kind of approach. A very clinical approach, I would say, to each client. I think that that has really helped me help a lot of my clients.

Gresham Harkless 11:06

Nice, I definitely appreciate that. Now, I wanted to ask you for what I call a CEO nugget. This is a word of wisdom or a piece of advice. Or if you could happen to be a time machine, what would you tell your younger business self?

Juily Wagle 11:18

Recognize what your passion was. Then kind of go into that. I should have started this company a long time ago, and not waited for it to happen just like recently.

Gresham Harkless 11:30

Yeah, I definitely appreciate that. You're talking about Steve Jobs's commencement speech, one of my favorite speeches at Stanford, and yeah, he said, that sometimes you don't know how life is going to play out. But a lot of times, you can look back and connect the dots and say, Oh, that's why that happened. A lot of times you do just for those things, that you're passionate about things that you love to do. Then sometimes it just starts to find its way around and work out.

Juily Wagle 11:51

Absolutely. I mean, it's my passion. It's my purpose. Now it's my profession. The sweet spot is really where I can contribute the best to society, and for myself. I think that's what really matters in the end.

Gresham Harkless 12:08

Awesome. Juily I wanted to ask you my absolute favourite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. And we're hoping to have different quote-unquote CEOs on the show. So really, what does being a CEO mean to you?

Juily Wagle 12:20

Being a CEO means that you are responsible for your company, you are responsible for the outcome that happens via your company, and you take the good and the bad learning experience. It's a conglomeration of passion, purpose, and profession and if these are in place, the profits do follow.

Gresham Harkless 12:51

Absolutely, I love that kind of equation, you need three P's to get the final P the profits and I think a lot of times having that holistic view of what it means and the responsibility to be a CEO to be a business owner and entrepreneur, I think that once we have that perspective, then that helps us to lead to success. But we have to take care of each of those, or its successes a lot harder to follow. Juily, I truly appreciate that definition, I appreciate your time even more and what I want to do is pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional, you can let our readers and listeners know. Then of course, how best they can get a hold of you and find out about all the awesome things you're working on.

Juily Wagle 13:27

I think we have touched on most of the important messages that I wanted to communicate to the audience. The most important thing I feel is that we need to find out early on what we are passionate about. I feel that when you're passionate about something, I would do this, what I do, even if I didn't get paid for it, I would help people get fit, I would get myself even fitter, and I will do research and I will do everything, what I do today, if I was not paid for it. That I think is the definition of passion. When you do something, without really it's been that itself, the fact that you're doing it is not reward enough.

I feel that every individual has something in their life, which would be something similar, they would want to do it all the time and not expect external rewards all the time for it. Yes, we need to live we need to eat, we need the money. But if you have something like this in your life, go for it. Work hard in it, and it will mostly be your calling. That's how you will really fructify the purpose of your life. I think this is what I would tell my children. This is what I would tell anybody who kind of says oh, I'm Jack of all Master of None and stuff like that. I don't know what my passion is. This is I think the key to discovering and unraveling in your life early on for the better. Nonetheless, it's never too late.

Gresham Harkless 14:58

Absolutely. The saying goes fine. Nothing you have to do. You'll never work a day in your life. I definitely think what you said definitely echoes that as well. People who want to reach out to you and follow up, what's the best way for them to do that?

Juily Wagle 15:10

My email juily.wagle@gmail.com, and my phone number, or WhatsApp, I respond very well to my clients. I have a lot of clients globally, a lot of my clients are in the US, some are in the UK, in Dubai and Singapore and all over India. That's another thing actually, it's a good point that you raised. In today's day of technology, a business like mine can function without having a brick-and-mortar shop, I work online, I work mostly via the Internet and by all these wonderful apps, and my clients get results. For some of my best clients or clients whom I have not trained personally, I have given them workouts and I worked on their mindset. Even though she lives in California, US Mountain View, she's a mother of a one-year-old, and she had excellent results. So yeah, you can get me on WhatsApp on my number. I'll share it with you.

Gresham Harkless 16:12

Awesome. We'll definitely make sure to have that information in the show notes so that everybody can follow up with you. But Juily I truly appreciate your time and I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.
