Intro 0:02

Do you want to learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales and grow your business from successful entrepreneurs, startups, and CEOs without listening to a long, long, long interview? If so, you've come to the right place. Gresham Harkless values your time and is ready to share with you precisely the information you're in search of. This is the I AM CEO Podcast.

Gresham Harkless 0:27

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresham from the I AM CEO Podcast, and I have a very special guest on the show today. I have Nikita B who is the hope dealer and purpose pusher. Nikita, it's awesome to have you on the show.

Nikita B Williams 0:37

Thank you for having me. I appreciate being here.

Gresham Harkless 0:39

No problem. No problem. You killed it today.

Nikita B Williams 0:41

Thank you.

Gresham Harkless 0:42

Everybody cracking up and laughing I was blushing a little bit. I wanted to hear a little bit more about like what brought you to the conference and a little bit more about, everything that you did.

[restrict paid=”true”]

Nikita B Williams 0:52

Well, the biggest thing that brought me to the conference was the invitation. Now, I'm just kidding. I'm the founder of the conference and Akia has a whole purpose and outlook of what she has for entrepreneurship, she and I are in sync with it.

And me being an entrepreneur, I know the value of that being in a room of like-minded people and in a room where people can add value and give clarity. So my whole push was to come perform, give laughter, but at the same time, give tips that they can actually apply to their everyday life and be able to do and they remember it because I've said it in a funny way.

Gresham Harkless 1:26

Yeah, it's funny, I was actually about to ask you that. Because you feel like people can retain a lot more stuff because they're laughing they're having a good time the guards are not up and they can take in a lot of that information.

Nikita B Williams 1:34

I tell you exactly what I tell people all the time. If a person is laughing? Are they listening? They are open. If they're quiet, they got it. They discipline through probably surfing on the phone, whatever. They are laughing they're listening. So that's the real thing.

Gresham Harkless 1:34

Okay. Okay, and was it something that you just picked up the ability to laugh? Or did you just recognize that cuz I know you touched on that a little bit on stage?

Nikita B Williams 1:54

Yeah, well, I'll I never thought it would be this. It actually happened after I lost my mom to breast cancer. But I lost my mom and breast cancer. I was in a deep depression. And we were doing a comedy show for my dad to help him like, want to see him laugh again. Because it's like Madison, you know, it just makes you feel better. And I performed that day, just to do it. And after that showed a lady was like, Can I get your booking for my function? Now I am bookable. I didn't know what to do. And literally, it was birth through that.

Gresham Harkless 2:25

That is awesome. That's awesome. How long ago? Was that?

Nikita B Williams 2:27

Eight years

Gresham Harkless 2:28

Eight years ago? That is awesome. That is awesome. Yeah, a lot of people aspire to do that. I was just saying that I went to DC Improv and it really takes a lot of courage to be able to stand up on stage and get people to laugh. Sometimes it's good to abstain on stage, but to get people to laugh is a different

Nikita B Williams 2:39

Oh, yeah, I'm telling cookout. You know, like, I've never been booed, but I have been in the room was an awkward silence. So hey, I am telling you.

Gresham Harkless 2:52

And how do you get over that? Because I knew the session a little bit, but fear is a really big thing. And we talking about, you know, an entrepreneurial conference where people are afraid to start out and do their business, you've been able to kind of face that fear here. But to do that, how do you face that?

Nikita B Williams 3:05

Honestly, it is virtually impossible to overcome fear without facing it. How else can you? So you have to do you have to know what ways can you build your courage because fear is gonna be there, right? There's a huge amount of money, right? So you build your careers by positive self-talk, you surround yourself around people who are already doing it, practice, practice, practice, practice, and more practice. You know what I mean? But there's gonna come a time when you got to execute.

Gresham Harkless 3:31

Right.

Nikita B Williams 3:31

You know what I mean? You can be in, you can be in the gym, working out getting stuff situated, it means nothing to you get out down on the court on the field. Execute. So you just have to

Gresham Harkless 3:42

Yeah, people are always at the mine of what is a ready, ready, Aim. Aim. Aim. Aim.

Nikita B Williams 3:49

You aim so much, you are not getting out of it.

Gresham Harkless 3:55

Exactly, you gotta make sure you take action. So that's cool. And so I wanted to ask you for what I call your secret sauce. And this is like your unique selling proposition which you feel kind of differentiates what do you think sets you apart and makes you unique?

Nikita B Williams 4:06

I think the biggest thing that sets me apart is outside of being the human part of it. I have fierce clarity. Like, I'm so clear. And even if it's a thing where I don't know, I know what I don't want. So I at least know that a person can come and have a conversation with me. And I can get from the beginning to the end quickly. So I just think that's my superpower.

Gresham Harkless 4:30

Yeah, that's huge in this day and age, because we talked about you know, somebody that's not listening to you, they're not laughing so they're on their phone. There are so many distractions out there and it's really hard to be set fish clarity, right? How do you do that?

Nikita B Williams 4:42

So, as a comedian, I sculpt the womb, and if somebody wants to come before me, I say what was the subject? What was the content they were talking about? That made the crowd move or made the crowd laugh or whatever, and if that fails, being real, personable, and relatable, it wins every time.

Gresham Harkless 5:00

Really, why do you think that is?

Nikita B Williams 5:01

Because everybody has a similar situation to somebody else. Period. It doesn't matter what it is, everybody has a relatable situation to somebody else. This is what I tell people and you remember it too. Who you used to be inside of a person that will be attracted to who you are now.

Gresham Harkless 5:22

That's powerful. That's powerful.

Nikita B Williams 5:23

So they are seeking you because they see who they desire to be. You're going to understand them because you used to be that person. Do you see how that works?

Gresham Harkless 5:33

Yeah, that's huge. Because I think that, you know, as I've gotten older, I feel like you've become a little bit more aware of other people. But in the beginning, you're just like, oh, it's only me, it's only me going through this show, or it's only me going through this thing, but you've been able to kind of see that as definitely a gift. A superpower is not just

Nikita B Williams 5:51

It is not just you, I promise you. Now some people, they can put a brand label on it. Some people can have more expensive hair on top of it. Some people can be beaten by the gods, but I can see how those same cover-up issues that other people have, they can't afford the luxury of fixing it up.

Gresham Harkless 6:09

Right, right, that makes perfect sense. Well, I appreciate that. So I wanted to switch gears a little. And I'm gonna ask you for something that's called a CEO hack. And this might be like an app or book or habit that you have something that you fall back on that makes you and gives you that edge. What do you think your CEO hack is?

Nikita B Williams 6:24

Um, you're gonna be late in the keynote, but I'm telling you the Bible.

Gresham Harkless 6:30

Okay.

Nikita B Williams 6:31

But not just Bible because it was difficult for me to read these and I want to know how to get another one in the near future. But I'm telling you the hack for me, affirmations. And it's funny that this podcast is I AM. After I started the whole movement is called the By Us movement by us, you know, people overlook you they pick one thing over another, but I changed the acronym.

By Us is because I am somebody. So whenever I start that self-doubt foolishness, why me? Because I am somebody. Why would they choose me because I am somebody? And when you start building that up on the inside of you, it gives you confidence. And when you have that type of confidence, you might be uncomfortable at the table. But just be reminded that you were given the invitation you didn't see it to see. So you belong there. So my I am affirmations, that's my head.

Gresham Harkless 7:26

Absolutely. No, I absolutely love that as part of the reason why you know, the podcast is I AM because those are the two most powerful words in the English language. Because whatever you say afterward is exactly what you are. So I love that CEO hack. And now I want to ask you for what I call a CEO nugget. And this is a word of wisdom or piece of advice. Or if you can happen to be a time machine, what would you tell your younger business self?

Nikita B Williams 7:47

Stick with it. I will tell my young business self to stick with it. It means one thing not stick with them, stick with those stick away everything sticks with it. Once you build on it and get it to a point, you can always add other things. But I think we want to go into things as a gumbo and saying I have all these wonderful things to offer and nobody wants me. That's because they only want the meat out of it. They don't want all the other stuff. So now they're not attracted to your meat because you got corn and other vegetables. I don't even like Oh God, what is that?

Gresham Harkless 8:19

Right.

Nikita B Williams 8:20

Yeah. So stick to your IT and follow it through. Trust the process?

Gresham Harkless 8:24

Absolutely. Absolutely. How do you find out what your IT is?

Nikita B Williams 8:28

Your IT is easy to come by, and easy for you to do. And people often ask you to do it. We just overthink it. Yeah, we know, people came to me all the time for clarity. I'm confused. Can you help me through this? Can you help me figure it out, even as a nurse, when they call me and I go and consult it, and when the buildings are in turmoil or when they've gone through a transition one company is buying another one? They've had a survey, they need clarity, and they need to fix the system.

So I know I'm gonna transition queen, right? Because of my superpower of clarity. I can go in and look at it. That's what it is. So whatever is easy for you, whatever they come to you for. And you don't even have to think about it. The problem is your IT may not be what you favor. But it's what he put on inside of you for you to do. That's not optional.

Gresham Harkless 9:16

Yeah. So sometimes we have to accept that and understand that that's what was given to us rather than what we want to do all the time.

Nikita B Williams 9:21

Right. That's exactly why you want to do this because it's your passion. He said I've got you for this purpose.

Gresham Harkless 9:27

So play your part. I absolutely love that. And now I want to ask you my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. And just like you kind of touched on we're looking to have different quote-unquote CEOs on the show. So I wanted to ask you Nikita who is being a CEO mean to you?

Nikita B Williams 9:41

Me being a CEO means that I'm able to infuse laughter into many people as possible on a daily basis. I am at a platform I'm in a position where I can be the antidote to somebody, I can be the aspirin to your pain. That's what the CEO means to me.

Gresham Harkless 9:59

Absolutely, absolutely

Nikita B Williams 10:00

Making you believe that you can do it.

Gresham Harkless 10:02

Yeah, absolutely. Even if you don't sometimes believe it, it's good to get that outside reminder. So, I appreciate you doing that. I appreciate your time today. Nikita. I wanted to ask, if there's anything additional, you want to let our readers and our listeners know and then how best they can find you.

Nikita B Williams 10:15

Um, I always have people laugh about the health of it because it is the cheapest medicine you can get. You don't have to pay anything for it. You know what I mean? So it's a lot of benefits to it. You can follow me not in your car but on Facebook. And Nikita, B. Williams, our other outlet is @iamnikitababysitter. I am, again.

Gresham Harkless 10:37

I see what you are doing.

Nikita B Williams 10:41
