The Automation Trap

A common pitfall for many builders is trying to completely outstrategize the basic foundations of business. We chase complex funnels, heavy automation, viral content loops, and massive campaigns while completely glossing over the most fundamental principles of executive execution. In this episode, inspired by a conversation with Matt on episode 60 of the I AM CEO podcast, we break down why attention without presence remains shallow, and why true corporate growth requires running a marathon instead of a sprint.

Consistency as a Brand Strategy

Many organizations believe they are missing a highly advanced strategy or a perfect pitch to unlock their next layer of market traction. In reality, they are simply failing to stay visible long enough for genuine trust to form. True visibility sits squarely within our core business pillars, and it encompasses far more than just surface-level marketing, PR, or digital impressions.

Your brand is actively built by the operational habits you omit on a daily basis. By building an asset out of being highly responsive, following up meticulously, and executing a daily checklist that prizes stability and focus, you separate your venture from a sea of distracted competitors.

Engineering Trust Through Accessibility

The core takeaway for any CEO is to never underestimate the raw business power of being reachable, reliable, and active in the right environments. Real authority forms when you make it completely seamless for clients and partners to trust that you will still be in the room long after the initial sales conversation concludes. Sometimes, the corporate door opens not because you possessed an immaculate technical framework, but simply because you were there. Ask yourself this critical question: “Where are you looking for an advanced operational strategy when the real opportunity is to simply show up more consistently?”. Stripping away the noise and returning to these foundational behaviors is the ultimate lever to convert basic attention into deep, lasting client relationships.

Sometimes, just sometimes, the advantage is not the fanciest strategy. Sometimes it's being the person who actually responds, shows up, follow through, and stays in the room long enough for trust to actually form. It sounds like something that's very basic and maybe something that we gloss over, but I believe in just about every industry, if you're a person that can actually do that, it's going to get you so much further ahead than a lot of the competition. Because I think that there's a lot of people that don't do those foundational, unquote basic things.

If you're building something meaningful, you're in the right place. This is the I Am CEO Podcast. I'm gresh, and for over a decade I've had the honor and the privilege of Learning directly from CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners just like you on how to build. After recording more than 1600 episodes, one thing has become clear. Success isn't about following someone else's blueprint. And as I like to say on the show, if you run your own race, you can't lose. Even when we feel the journey should be a straight and linear path, what I've come to find out is success is a lot more like a plate of spaghetti. So in this special segment and episode, I'm starting to curate and share some CEO hacks and CEO nuggets that I've been dying to share. Drawn from thousands of episodes with phenomenal guests that have provided awesome value on the show, but also my 10 years of business experience as well too. These lessons are designed to strengthen the foundational principles that every business is built on and guided by a simple equation that we always go back to with our content. Visibility plus resources times connections equals success. This is practical wisdom you can apply almost immediately, so be sure to check out the show notes for more resources and next steps on how to level up. And of course, enjoy this special episode of the I Am CEO Podcast.

Because I think that there's a lot of people that don't do those foundational, quote unquote, basic things. That's what I loved, loved, loved about episode number 60 of the I Am CEO Podcast with Matt. And Matt works in the heavy metal world as a consultant, AR A&R man, and a journalist as well too. Get this, he started his blog at the age of 14 and what began as a way to connect with people he cared about the same music eventually became a career helping artists to ultimately develop. But here's the thing. I don't keep coming back to this episode and thinking about that and thinking about the nugget because it's just music and I love music and I think there's so many benefits to music. I think it's this idea of showing up and not just the idea of it, the actual practice of doing it on a regular basis. Matt's nugget was ultimately to be there, be present and show up. Show that you care. And honestly, that applies to builders in almost every industry. Why? Because so many people are trying to out strategize the basics. They want the funnel, they want the automation, they want the viral content, they want the perfect brand, they want the campaign, they want all the CEO hacks, right? But they don't respond quickly, they don't follow up, they don't go where people actually are. They don't stay visible long enough to build trust. They don't stay in the game long enough. They're running a sprint when it needs to be a marathon. Here's something I want to let you in on. Presence still matters. Now, Matt talked around about working hard, answering emails quickly, and building a daily checklist that includes writing, making introductions, reading, meditating, and staying active. That doesn't sound flashy at all. But what it sounds like is consistency. And what we start to realize is the recipe of success needs and really excels from that consistency. You need to have those foundational principles and those things that we do on a regular basis so that you can reach that level of excellence that the really phenomenal people do. And here's the thing. A lot of times consistency is what separates the person who gets opportunities from the person who is still waiting to be discovered. Where does this come up? I think it touches a little bit on the visibility pillar because visibility is not just about being seen online. Visibility is being known as the person who shows up, responds, cares, and keeps moving. So I think so many times we think of visibility as a marketing and PR and sales, but a lot of times your brand in the what you omit and what and how people see you is based on those foundational principles that you're doing on a regular basis. So while you're you know, in this place of executing, sometimes we don't realize we're also executing on the brand that we're building. And for builders that's practical. Are you showing up in the rooms where opportunity exists? Are you following up when people show interest? Are you making it easier for people to trust you will be there after that first conversation? Because attention without presence can be shallow and presence builds relationship. And here's the nugget I would run with. Don't underestimate the business power of being reachable, reliable and in the right rooms. Here's something you should ask yourself. Where are you looking for a more advanced strategy when the opportunity, the real opportunity is to simply show up more consistently because sometimes the door opens not because you had the perfect pitch. Sometimes it just opens up because you were there. If you've been over complicating growth, this conversation with Matt is a strong reminder to get back to those basics.
