IAM2456 – Unlocking the Secrets of the Dallas Cowboys

Special Episode by Gresham Harkless Jr.

A smiling man stands next to a graphic that reads, "Unlocking the Secrets of the Dallas Cowboys," with Blue Star Branding and podcast episode information displayed. In this special episode of Franchise Broker Journey (Day 56), Gresham Harkless shares a blend of personal and sports-related insights. He begins by touching on his exhaustion from lack of sleep, hinting at preparation for his newborn, and then transitions into his thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys’ football season.

Despite initial disappointments, Harkless emphasizes recognizing that not every season is meant for “reaping” — some are for “planting seeds.”

Gresham connects his struggles — including the loss of his dog Star, his grandmother, and his uncle — to show how emotional turbulence can impact decision-making.

Intro 00:00

Are you ready to hear business stories and learn effective ways to build relationships, generate sales, and level up your business from awesome CEOs, entrepreneurs, and founders without listening to a long, long, long interview?

If so, you've come to the right place. Gresh values your time and is ready to share with you the valuable info you're in search of. This is the I AM CEO Podcast.

Gresham Harkless 00:28

Hello, hello, hello. This is Gresh from the I AM CEO Podcast. And this is a special episode of our I AM CEO Podcast.

And this is actually going to be a snippet of a snippet, so to speak. I'm just doing an intro because I've been starting to document my journey into starting what is now called Blue Star Franchise.

We're also going to do a kind of sub site within CB Nation called Franchise CEO. So you'll see some links in the show notes related to that.

But just wanted to give you a little bit more insight, give you a little bit more color in some of the aspects of why I'm actually doing this.

Because one of the things I was doing as I was going through training to start up this new business was realizing and hearing from the founder of FBA, the Franchise Brokers Association, that it'd be really cool to document your journey going through and building this out.

I think it's something that would be super helpful, obviously for people that are looking for and thinking about starting franchises.

But frankly, if you're starting anything, any type of business, I think it's really cool to kind of just even see the journey and how it's been going from there.

So I'm going to share a few of those snippets from the, from the first couple of videos that have been created.

But definitely, of course, subscribe to our YouTube, check out a lot more where I figure out exactly where we're going to post this.

So I'll have that information that's available to you. But regardless, if you're a builder, continue to keep building, continue to do your thing.

The world definitely needs exactly what you're trying to build and needs you to be your unique self.

So make sure to run your own race, because nobody can run your race like you. This is Gresh signing out. I hope you have a phenomenal rest of the day.

This is day 56 of the Franchise Brokering journey, and I actually wanted to talk today a little bit more about my Dallas Cowboys.

I stayed up late, so I only got about four or five hours sleep. I guess I'm getting my reps in for baby Gresh and what that's going to entail with a newborn in the household.

But regardless, the big thing that I wanted to kind of maybe even hammer home is that many times you have those seasons, years, periods, whatever you might call them, that don't go the way that you want it to go.

And I definitely feel like, easing out into this year, I felt like this was not, the way that I wanted this season to go.

But sometimes every season is not reaping season and sometimes you're planting seeds for tomorrow.

So I really wanted to get Bill Belichick or Sean Payton, really, because I thought that the owner, Jerry Jones, would listen to these coaches.

I feel like they would walk in and get this level of cachet that would kind of help to make sure things are done in a better, unique way and shift those things.

But Mike McCarthy is our coach and it seems like he will continue to be our coach from what I can tell because the Cowboys are playing hard.

They've gotten better. They've improved. So those are the things that you ultimately wanted to see.

But in the grand scheme of things, I think that, with the number of injuries and a lot of teams go through injuries, you always have the question of like, is this did you get a fair shot at what happened?

And when I say fair shot, I'm using air quotes when I say fair shots, because things happen, life happens, and that's consistent.

I think the point is, is always asking you, do you want to continue? Do you want to stop?

Should you pursue those things? And I think that's what's always going to be a area of question.

So with that being said, I really think that going into this, year, you can look back and say that I did have a lot of things that happened I was watching something and I can't remember why for watching something.

Oh, it was, she's really big fanatic about these he's like 90 day and the ultimatum and things like that.

So we were watching that and one of the girls that went through I can't remember what her name was, but she had her grandma died.

It was her best friend. She had a she had a miscarriage, those things, like it all had happened, within like a year.

And I even said, when I watched it, I was like, that's a lot, to happen, like for somebody within a year.

And I was like, to be able to make a decision about what you're gonna do, like you're not even right in the right emotional state.

Not necessarily, and I don't mean to judge or anything like that, but it's just like, you know that there's a lot of things going on.

So you know that you're not kind of always at peace when you're making the decisions, because you're just like at a heightened state and on guard, and you're hurt, and those things.

And my wife said, you went through a lot as well, too. Like, not exactly the same, obviously, but just losing Star, and of course, losing my grandma.

And then, probably within the last two years, even losing my uncle as well, too a lot for our family.

But I think once sometimes when you look through, like with Star especially, like I literally have spent most of my years with that business or one of the two.

And just being at a heightened state of like, I'm not sure what's going to happen.

And I think when especially when you lose a pet, it's one of those things where you're kind of being put on guard.

You're always kind of heightened and the decline was just so quick. And, it still hurts to kind of think about that.

I still miss her tremendously. With that being said, the reason I said the lesson for the Cowboys is because you kind of look at what you don't.

You're not getting to your goal of what the results were going to be, but you understand that if you're doing the right things to get there.

And when I look at this year, I say, I think we were really building a foundation. I feel like we were doing the right things to get to where we need to be.

And it's just in terms of taking those steps forward. So that's a lot of what I see.

That's what a lot of what I think is going to be the case where We built that foundation and we're just going to be better as a result of it.

But it's just, ultimately for me to kind of see what's going to happen.

And I think that is going to be the really big thing that I take away is this was definitely a foundation building year and getting things in the right place so that hopefully we get an ascent within the next few years. So that's what I'm looking at and we'll see what happens.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. And of course, looking forward to giving you more and more updates.
