02:00 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Yes, I am.

02:01 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Well, let's do it then. So, to kind of kick everything off, I wanted to rewind the clock a little bit, hear a little bit more about how you got started, and what I like to call your CEO story.

02:11 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Yes. I mean, my bio really did summarize it to a great extent. For me, everything started off with just this spiritual nudge. To begin my spiritual healing journey. After finishing undergrad, I put myself through college through undergrad, and it was just a, you know, although I graduated I'm very grateful for the experience of being able to attend college, but it was definitely a process that took a lot of energy out of me, emotionally, physically, spiritually, in all those ways. So when I finished undergrad, I was just in this place of desperation where I needed to heal, and I felt like. And so I followed a nudge. I followed a call to attend chiropractic school. I think what, you know, what I realized at that moment, yes, I was on a spiritual healing journey, but as I would continue throughout school, I realized I was really just diving deeper and understanding my truth and some of the truths of the world. I believe. I think where I am now, I've come to realize that I was really just after peace and happiness and a deeper sense of fulfillment. So, you know, from there, from that journey along the way, what was born was this sense of purpose and a passion to really bring a lot of the things that I found along my journey to people, guiding them towards those things through. Through chiropractic and Reiki and some of the other services that we'll talk about.

03:46 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, well, I definitely appreciate you for sharing that, and I don't know if you would feel this way, but I'm a big believer in that. A lot of times, when you are able to get in alignment, it allows you that opportunity, as I said in your bio and as you said so well, of that inner healing, not just for the business and the different modalities I imagine that you're able to use, but just overall, you find that piece, and you're able to present that piece and provide people an opportunity to have that piece as well.

04:11 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Exactly, Gresham. And that is 100% it.

04:16 – Gresham Harkless

Nice. Nice. And so I know we touched on a little bit of the ways by which you do it in those modalities. Could you take us through a little bit more about that and how you serve the clients you work with?

04:26 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Yes. So, most obviously, it started off through chiropractic, chiropractic being this overall philosophy that the body is made to heal, heal itself. So the body just needs to be placed in the appropriate environment, be it mental, be it emotional, be it physical, when all those resources are in the appropriate alignment, health flows, and harmony flows. So that's what really grounds my perspective towards health, towards life, towards my clients. Then from there, I began to explore other healing modalities, such as Reiki, which is energy healing. Everything in life is energy. Our thoughts are energy. The actions that we take towards certain events or doing things most obviously are energetic. So what ends up happening as we move throughout life, is things, and energy can become stuck or stagnant. When that happens, it impedes our health. It prevents that flow from happening. It prevents that harmony.

So Reiki is a tool and modality to help that energy flow and to bring inspiration and peace to our lives. So also through my master's in positive psychology, I ended up getting trained in life coaching or in coaching in general. So I think that's just another aspect that is interwoven in pretty much everything that I do is just constantly coaching individuals towards finding their own sense of power. And, yes, chiropractic is great, but at the end of the day, what are clients or patients doing when they leave the office? So that coaching place becomes inevitable and giving them that sense of power to say, hey, like, yes, we talked about all these exercises that you could be doing for your life, but now how are you going to implement that and make it a reality for you?

06:25 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah. And that's extremely powerful because I almost feel like, and definitely correct me if I'm wrong, like, it sounds like you're empowering, you know, the clients that you work with in so many different ways. As you said, you know, being able to, of course, you know, help them out from, from a chiropractic standpoint or a Reiki standpoint. But also that life coach piece, to me, empowers people on how to kind of continue on so that they do have that happiness, they do have that peace that you kind of spoke to in creating that foundational, I think, healthy environment.

06:53 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Yes. And I think at the end of the day, the word empowerment, for me, I immediately thought of inspiration or to inspire. I think that's at the heart of why I was, you know, why I am here. And, you know, whether it's through chiropractic, whether it's through Reiki, whether it's, you know when I'm speaking, or whether I also blog and send inspirational messages out monthly to my, to my group of clients, I'm constantly inspiring. So that, yes, is the, it's one of the most important parts. I think now more than ever, that's what people really need or look and are looking for.

07:31 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, absolutely. You get to be that catalyst or be the change that you wish to kind of see in the world. And it kind of sounds like, you know, your journey and how you got to that, you know, that inner healing and the ability to be able to find, you know, that purpose and that passion that you have. I almost feel like the journey sometimes puts you in a place so that you are able to help people who might be going through a similar journey and may not feel as if they can see the light at the end of the tunnel or can't see the positive things. It helps to have that environment, have that positivity so that people know that there is a way.

08:02 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Yes, that's definitely been a truth that I've taken out of this experience, is that a lot of what I had to go through was because I've been called to serve those exact people. I think in a lot of ways you can serve individuals who maybe haven't lived or you haven't lived their exact story. But in my case, it's definitely been that. It's been evidence that I went through those experiences to help serve those individuals who are now going through those particular issues.

08:32 – Gresham Harkless

Yeah, that makes so much sense. So I appreciate you for sharing that and, of course, doing that as well. So I wanted to ask you if that is what you consider to be what I call your secret sauce, the thing you feel kind of sets you apart and makes it unique. Is it that ability to be able to, I guess, empower to create that positivity within people as well?

08:51 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Yes, I think that's the internal or the more passive part of what I think I bring to the table. It's taken me so long to be able to affirm and really acknowledge and allow it to be a beautiful thing. I think a lot of times, and I don't know if you're this way or I know there's somebody out there who may do this, but for so long, I overlooked the sense of encouragement or gratitude that people were extending to me throughout my life, for whatever reason. You know, a lot of it was covered up by some of the internal trauma and things that I was going through in my life. But now I look back and I was like a lot of where people were affirming my ability or my gifts, I was just overlooking it. So that's definitely one of the things that has come out of this experience, is that I just have a way. And I think I've been given a gift to inspire people from all different walks of life, and from male to female, it doesn't matter who the individual is. I've really been able to step in that, into that.

But I think on the more external parts, I think what I bring to the table that's unique is most of my services are mobile, meaning I travel to the individual's home or to their workspace. I've always liked that. I know watching movies and seeing doctors travel with a doctor's bag, going to individuals' homes and serving them, I always thought that was amazing and beautiful. Over the years, as a society, we've obviously moved away from that. So being able to do that now, especially through Covid, has been truly remarkable. I think people have appreciated it. It's bringing a lot of intimacy back to the experience, I believe. I think, on the other hand, it's.

I particularly enjoy working with families, especially babies and young kids, because I firmly believe that if we can inspire and provide younger individuals with the right mindsets, tools, and resources to take care of their own health now, we will raise healthy kids instead of having to fix broken adults later on. Then the last park. Is that a part? Is that? I also love working with those who are in the beautiful beauty industry. So, like hair salons and barbers, I usually work with them in their shops doing like monthly sessions where I'll come there and adjust their clients or their staff members. Again, just being able to educate them because they spend a lot of time on their feet and they're using their arms a lot in these very tiring positions and postures. So those three aspects, in addition to what you mentioned about being able to empower people, would be the, I think what makes my business unique.

11:45 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So I wanted to switch gears a little bit, and I want to ask you for what I call a CEO hack. So this could be like an app, a book, or a habit that you have, but what's something that makes you more effective and efficient?

11:56 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

I think the overall habit of reading, or I think even more than that, just remaining curious about things. I love learning to love education. I think as much as I've, as much as I see my role as a chiropractor, which is, you know, a doctor, which just, which means teacher, as much as I see myself as a teacher who inspires, I think at the heart of that, and more importantly, I'm a student. I think just having that posture of always being willing to learn from any and every situation is what makes me. It's what's helped me be successful.

12:35 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So now I wanted to ask you for what I call a CEO nugget. So this could be a word of wisdom or a piece of advice. It might be something if you were to hop into a time machine, you might tell your younger business self, I.

12:46 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Spent some time really thinking about it and what came up. What came up is your business and personal life, and it is not comma separate. So your business and personal life are a comma and it is not, comma separate.

13:06 – Gresham Harkless

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So now I wanted to ask you my absolute favorite question, which is the definition of what it means to be a CEO. We're hoping to have different, quote-unquote CEO's on the show. So, Doctor Darian, what does being a CEO mean to you?

13:17 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

To me, a CEO is a specific type of leader. Because of that, a specific type of leader is called to lead in a particular field or industry. But at the heart of the CEO is a leader. They are leaders. Because you're a leader, you're also a teacher. As teachers, we are individuals who inspire. I think with that inspiration, there is a most fundamental and critical role or responsibility to bring attention to the way we show up in our lives and on our platforms.

13:57 – Gresham Harkless

Doctor Darin, truly appreciate that definition and I appreciate your time even more. What I wanted to do is just pass you the mic, so to speak, just to see if there's anything additional you can let our readers and listeners know and of course, how best they can get ahold of you and find out about all the awesome things that you're working on.

14:11 – Dr. Darrien Jamar

Well, I want to say, Gresham, thank you so much for reaching out and asking me to be on this, be a part of this podcast, and be a part of the great purpose and mission that you and others have been really trailblazing. I don't think. I think I've given my all in the responses. I've done my best to be intentional and to be as concise as possible.
